Thunderstorm rains forced Georges Run Creek out of its banks, causing several evacuations.
Torrential thunderstorm rains created widespread flash flooding across the county as numerous roads were closed. Several evacuations were required in the city of Bingamon, but the majority of problems were reported in the Mannington area.
Six to 12 inch rains in about four hours between Freedom and Spencer resulted in extreme flash flooding. Flood waters washed out 9 bridges, 8 culverts, one road, and several houses.

The month of June had to give Iowa one last gasp of heavy rainfall. Since the soil was already saturated, it did not take much rainfall to cause renewed flooding. Moderate rains of 1 to 2 inches occurred on the 27th through the 29th.
Heavy rainfall of four to seven inches, most of which occurred in just less than two hours, flooded the Huntsville area. According to newspaper reports, one woman was killed when her car stalled on a flooded bridge on Vermont Road.
Heavy rainfall earlier in the day caused many local creeks and streams to rise significantly. According to newspaper reports, a 3 year old boy drowned and an 8 year old boy sustained minor injuries while canoeing on a rain swollen creek after heavy rains had ended.
Four to six inches of rainfall in a short period of time caused extensive flooding throughout Lee County. The hardest hit areas were Auburn and Opelika. Numerous roads and highways were closed in and around Auburn and Opelika.
The house at this location was severely damaged.

A mid-level short wave trough combined with an approaching cold front and a warm, humid environment to produce severe thunderstorms and flash flooding across MA and northern RI during the afternoon and evening hours. A Flash Flood Emergency occurred in the Norwood, MA area.
During a time without any major weather systems moving through the region, a moist atmosphere with differential heating and remaining outflows from earlier thunderstorms was enough for thunderstorms and heavy rain to develop across central Kentucky.
An upper level low pressure system was over the Arizona and New Mexico border. There was a stationary front across the area which provided additional lift over West Texas. Abundant moisture was continuing to move into the region.
Deep monsoonal moisture moved into the region and combined with an upper level trough to produce training storms across the city of El Paso which resulted in one death.

The heat wave during the summer of 1980 was a memorable one across the Southern Plains. Over western north Texas, the heat reached its peak on June 28th, when the temperature at Wichita Falls reached 117 degrees. This is the highest temperature ever recorded in Wichita Falls, breaking the previous record of 116, set just the day before.

Victim was found by neighbors in the afternoon of the 28th. She had been deceased for a day or two, so the exact time and date of death is unknown. She lived in a low-income, high crime area and lived on a fixed income.
A 10 month old girl and her 3-year old brother died after being left along in a closed car in Southfield. Temperatures that day were in the 90s while the children were left in the car. They were in the car approximately 3 hours and died from the extreme heat.

A 25 year old man was struck and killed by lightning while camping in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The victim was an instructor for the Voyageur Outward Bound School. Another man was knocked unconscious.
