In the evening hours of April 18, 1880, a devastating F4-rated tornado struck several communities in the Springfield metropolitan area, Missouri, killing 99 people and injuring an estimated 200 others. The tornado is commonly known as the Marshfield Cyclone because it directly impacted the city of Marshfield, where almost every building within city limits was leveled.

On this date back in 1959, a severe thunderstorm moved southeast across the Chattanooga area, dumping 4 inches of rain in 30 minutes, along with hail up to an inch in diameter, which piled up over a foot deep in bar ditches. Hail up to one and one-half inches in diameter also caused roof damage across south Oklahoma City.

The Red River reached a new record level in Grand Forks, just over 54 feet, on April 21st/22nd, shattering the previous record by over 5 feet. Problems with the river gauge led to difficulties in obtaining stages.
From April 18 to 19, most of southeast Kentucky received 1 to 3 inches of rain, but some spots received 3 to 5 inches. The heavy rain resulted in widespread flash flooding, small stream flooding, and eventually river flooding.
Scattered thunderstorms developed during the early afternoon of the 18th across Central Maryland. Some of the storms produced damaging winds, very heavy downpours, and frequent lightning.

A rockslide on US Highway 14A east of Lovell in the Bighorn Mountains deposited at least 7,500 cubic yards of rock on the roadway. The slide occurred near milepost 73.4 and was witnessed and recorded by at least one person.

Warm temperatures caused rapid snow melt that combined with heavy rainfall to produce flooding and rapid flows on the Menominee River near and downstream from McAllister (Marinette Co.).
During the 2019 Easter weekend, the coastal city of Durban, South Africa, experienced severe flooding, caused by torrential rain brought on by a steep upper air trough, which deepened into low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere, and impacted the city and its surrounding areas starting 18 April 2019. The floods resulted in at least 70 deaths caused by collapsed buildings, mudslides and sinkholes.

An unstable air mass moved into South Louisiana ahead of an upper level disturbance that was moving out of Texas. A weak line of storms moved into Southeast Texas then into Louisiana and strengthened. This produced flooding and a few reports of damage.
Rapid snowmelt from a few day period of well above normal temperatures focused on the 11-13th of April resulted in moderate to locally major flooding through much of the James River Basin.
A cluster of severe thunderstorms with very large hail and heavy rain tracked along a warm front over southern WI during the morning. Numerous reports of very large hail were received, and also flash flooding in Milwaukee.

A line of severe thunderstorms raced across southern Wisconsin producing winds up to 80 mph and hail up to the size of golf balls. A barn was downed by intense winds near Mt. Sterling, Crawford County.
As the storm mentioned above tracked across the state, a dry slot moved out just ahead of it. Thunderstorms fired along and just ahead of the dry slot. The winds aloft were quite strong at the time as were the gradient winds.
A severe thunderstorm crossed the Mississippi River from Missouri and carved a damage path from Wickliffe to Ceredo to Kevil. One mobile home was destroyed, three mobile homes were damaged, and a business was damaged. A tree fell on a home, and another tree fell on a car.
A series of squall lines with severe thundestorms raced northeastward across southern Wisconsin and generated damaging straightline winds. Rock County suffered the most damage with the Beloit-Janesville area (Rock County) getting the brunt of the severe storms.
A dry microburst caused wind damage in St. Peters. Trees and power lines were downed as were some signs along Interstate 70. A church also suffered roof damage. About 10 people were injured from the shingles flying off the church. The adjacent rectory also lost part of its roof.
An approaching cold front induced strong winds across western Colorado. Gusts of 50 to 60 MPH were common.
