A tornado touched down near Gill. It damaged a grain bin owned by the Northern Feed and Bean of Gill. Although not confirmed, it is believed the same twister was responsible for destroying a 60-ft by 250-ft storage building south of town.

Rainfall of 2 to 4 inches fell in less than 6 hours duringthe late night and predawn hours across northern Carter,Greenup, and Boyd Counties. Greenup Lock and Dam measured 3 inches, while Ashland had 3.9 inches. An unofficialreport of 6 inches was received from Argillite.
Late night and predawn thunderstorms moved out of northeastKentucky and dumped 2 to 4 inches of rain in less than 6 hours across Lawrence and southern Gallia Counties. Gallipolismeasured 4.7 inches in the 24 hour period. Waterloo had4 inches of rain.
Numerous observations of large hail were reported by spotters, amateur radio operators and National Weather Service personnel. The hail damaged several vehicles in the Billings area, and also caused heavy damage to crops.
Heavy rain triggered a mudslide in Blackhawk. The mudslide blocked Main Street and caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to the Golden Gate Casino.
Heavy rain which reduced visibility to near zero was blamed for a head-on motor vehicle collision that left one man dead and 4 others injured.

Tornado Watch Number 706 and Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 707 were in effect for this event. A strong capping inversion initially prevented storms from developing across North Dakota.

As a front approached the region, storms developed in a warm and moist airmass. These storms brought damaging winds, small hail and some flash flooding.
A line of severe thunderstorms crossed Massachusetts ahead of a cold front and produced widespread wind damage, including two microbursts at Logan International Airport in Boston where wind gusts of 68 MPH and 73 MPH were reported.
High pressure retrograted in response to a deepening mid-level trough over the center of the nation and parked over western Colorado.

Violent thunderstorms ripped across western New York and the Finger Lakes region during the evening hours. The strong thunderstorms downed trees and power lines and left hundreds of thousands without power. Several roads were blocked by fallen debris.
After a long spell of hot and humid weather, a potent cold front finally moved through southeast Michigan. However, temperatures were able to climb well into the 90s before the front arrived, with dew points in the middle to upper 70s.
A 68 mph wind gust was measured at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. In nearby Olmstead Falls, around a dozen trees were blown down with at least three landing on houses.

Excessive heat claimed the life of a man in Little Rock. He was found unconscious on a city street and died later at the hospital.

Temperatures climbed into the middle to upper 90s, with La Crosse (La Crosse County) even reaching 100. The excessive heat combined with high humidity pushed heat indices dangerously high, with values of 105 to 115.
Although the temperature remained below 90 degrees and the heat index never reached 100 degrees on July 31st, a heat related death was reported in the city of Manitowoc. The woman was pronounced dead on August 4th.
The Rockdale Citizen and all of the major broadcast networks in Atlanta reported that a 15-year old high school football player died of heat exhaustion the day after an afternoon workout at the Rockdale County High School in Conyers.
The month of July, during the year 2011, was brutally hot. Oklahoma City set a July record for the number of 100-degree days in the month. Will Rogers World Airport recorded at least 100 degrees 27 out of the 31 days. Wichita Falls reported high temperatures of at least 100 degrees all 31 days, tying the record with the year 1980.

The month of July, in the year 2013, ended up being the second wettest on record for Oklahoma City. A monthly rain total of 9.84 inches was recorded at Will Rogers World Airport. The year of 2013 was an exceptionally wet year, helping to relieve a long-term drought for much of central Oklahoma.

A woman was working with her husband and three daughters in a field on her farm near Wied, just west of Hallettsville, as thunderstorms moved into the area. All five headed indoors quickly, but the mother was struck by lightning and killed. None of the others were injured.
