Hurricane Matthew was a powerful and devastating tropical cyclone which caused catastrophic damage and a humanitarian crisis in Haiti, as well as widespread devastation across Cuba, the Bahamas, and the southeastern United States. The deadliest Atlantic hurricane since Hurricane Stan in 2005, and the first Category 5 Atlantic hurricane since Felix in 2007, Matthew was the thirteenth named storm, fifth hurricane and second major hurricane of the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season.

BRIEF TOUCHDOWN OVER OPEN COUNTRY
A tornado touched down at the northwest edge of the Manhattan Airport and damaged a barn as it travelled along the ground for three hundred yards.
A tornado damaged several sheds and downed several large trees. The tornado travelled three miles through eastern Jackson County before crossing into western Atchison County at 621 PM CST.
Waterspout moved onshore and did F0 damage on the east end of Galveston Island. Damage included fences down, a carport damaged, and part of an apartment brick facade down.
A small tornado struck just southwest of Driftwood, knocking 2 trucks off SH12. None of the vehicle occupants were injured. One of the trucks was operable after being righted.
Several lines of strong to severe thunderstorms formed ahead of a cold front and strong low pressure system over southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, and moved into portions of southeast Alabama during the afternoon of the 8th.
A morning waterspout on the 8th came ashore as a EF0 tornado in the Bay Point/Preserve subdivision and again at Port Panama City. Late in the afternoon, an EF1 tornado touched down a few miles southwest of Lloyd.

Heavy rains caused flash flooding in central and south-central Oklahoma on the 7th and 8th of October, back in 1970. Twelve inches of rainfall resulted in flooding that damaged crops, livestock, farm machinery, roads, and bridges. Platt National Park, now part of the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, received 11.61 inches of rain, which caused about $125,000 in damage. The total damage in the 11-county area was about $3 million.

On 7 October 2017, tunnels were flooded between the Bishan and Braddell stations of Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT). Upper level disturbances interacted with plenty of gulf moisture to produce rounds of very heavy rain. In fact, very heavy rainfall moved north into Kimble County from Edwards County, up the South Llano River watershed area during the early morning hours of Monday, October 8.
