Hurricane Michael was a powerful and destructive tropical cyclone that became the first Category 5 hurricane to make landfall in the contiguous United States since Andrew in 1992. It was the third-most intense Atlantic hurricane to make landfall in the contiguous United States in terms of pressure, behind the 1935 Labor Day hurricane and Hurricane Camille in 1969.

Severe thunderstorms developed across central Oklahoma during the afternoon of the 10th, along a cold front that was moving into the area. These storms moved eastward and across eastern Oklahoma during the evening.
An unseasonably warm and moist airmass was in place across the region ahead of a powerful upper wave moving out of the 4 corners region. This led to the development of numerous severe thunderstorms across Oklahoma and Texas during the afternoon and evening of the 10th.
An area of low pressure working across the Upper Midwest on the 10th was able to pull abnormally high moisture into the region leading to sufficient instability for the development of storms.
During the afternoon and evening of October 10th, as the remnants of Hurricane Delta passed northwest of Georgia, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico spread across the area.
A weak tornado, with estimated wind speeds of 90 MPH occurred near Neilton in Grays Harbor County, WA. The damage was limited to trees across Moclips Highway and a nearby forest service road.

Locally heavy rainfall entered several homes in Volusia County, causing minor damage, and led to road closures in Palm Bay in Brevard County, while high astronomical tides and coastal flooding led to damage at the shoreline.
Strong northeast winds resulting from high pressure inland and developing low pressure offshore along with astronomical influences associated with a recent full moon and perigee led to coastal flooding along coastal Southeast South Carolina.

By the early afternoon of Thursday, October 10th, surface low pressure was located near Wadena, Minnesota. A stationary boundary extended northward from the low, up toward Baudette, Minnesota.
A strong and rare winter storm brought heavy wet snow along with an initial period of heavy sleet to central and northeast South Dakota. Snowfall amounts ranged from 6 to 13 inches with sleet amounts of 1 to 2 inches.
By the early afternoon of Thursday, October 10th, surface low pressure was located near Wadena, Minnesota. A stationary boundary extended northward from the low, up toward Baudette, Minnesota.
