During the late afternoon and evening hours of February 5, 2008, a long-track and deadly EF4 tornado moved through central and northern Arkansas, impacting several towns and communities including Atkins, Clinton and Mountain View along a 122-mile (196 km) path. A total of 13 fatalities were recorded and 140 people were injured, making the tornado the deadliest in Arkansas since 1997, where another violent and deadly tornado impacted communities in central Arkansas and killed 15.

During the week of February 3rd through the 10th, a river of subtropical atmospheric moisture flowed above northern Oregon. Weather disturbances within this flow produced very heavy rainfall, particularly in the northwestern part of the state.

Mill Creek was 6 feet over its banks at the intersection of Thompson Lane and Glen Rose at 1019 AM CST in Davidson County. Water covered state Highway 96 in Rutherford County. Several homes were flooded in the Walter Hill Subdivision.

Strong west winds, generally gusting to 50 mph, were occurring over the Walsenburg area the morning of the 5th. An isolated gust, of unknown magnitude, but estimated at just under 70 mph, overturned a semi-truck hauling half a mobile home.
One of the stronger Pacific storms of the winter season resulted in damaging winds when it moved over the coastal area and interiors of NW Oregon and SW Washington. One of the more dramatic events associated with this storm was the destruction of a Keizer, Oregon mobile home.
Numerous trees and power lines were blown down from near Shady Grove through Adamsville to near Brookside. Up to 50 homes suffered mainly minor damage, most of which occurred due to falling trees. Three to four homes sustained major damage.
There were numerous reports of hail and damaging winds as a cold front and upper level shortwave affected the region. The front had moved east of north Texas by late afternoon.

A mixture of snow and sleet started falling on the morning of the 5th over parts of western and southwest Arkansas. The precipitation gradually overspread the rest of area later in the day and continued well into the day on the 6th.

A 71 YEAR OLD MALE DIED FROM COLD WEATHER IN THE PRICHARD AREA. THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED TO 11 DEGREES DURING THE NIGHT. EVIDENTLY, THE MAN FELL AND INJURED HIMSELF. WHEN HE FELL HE KNOCKED OVER A COUCH AND A SPACE HEATER HE USED TO KEEP WARM.
