This first tornado of the afternoon came close to striking a farm that was plowing his field. His tractor was running low on fuel and just made it back to shelter as irrigation pipe was flying by. Several pivots were destroyed.

This date back in 2003 marked the first day of a three-day barrage of tornadic thunderstorms over Oklahoma. The first tornadoes occurred over southwest and south-central Oklahoma during the late evening of May 7th, into the overnight hours. The strongest tornadoes with this initial activity were rated as F2, and they occurred in the Cornish, Overbrook, and Antioch areas of extreme south-central Oklahoma. Although there was over $250,000 in damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

This was the first of three tornadic events in two days for Oklahoma. The other two events occurred on the afternoon of May 8 and on May 9, 2003 (see appropriate storm data).
A strong cold front move through the region on the 7th. Numerous showers and very strong thunderstormsaccompanied the front. The thunderstorms produced widespread damage in the Piedmont region of Northern Virginia.
The initial "big" severe weather event for the 2005 season was quite a deal across south central Nebraska as several tornadoes were sighted. Of all the tornadoes, the most significant one occurred just east of Holdrege.
A strong upper level low pressure system moved into southwest Oklahoma, and continued moving east throughout the day. Extremely strong lift ahead of the storm system and abundant moisture allowed for widespread showers and thunderstorms to develop over much of Oklahoma.

Serious flooding occurred across central Oklahoma after torrential rain and hail fell on May 7th and 8th, back in 1993. Heavy rain, which fell on the 7th, left rainfall amounts up to an inch. Oklahoma City then recorded 6.64 inches of rain on the 8th, the sixth greatest daily rainfall amount ever observed in the city. Extensive flooding resulted, which killed four people in Oklahoma City, and the fire department had to rescue 183 others. More than 2,000 homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed, and damages were estimated at $8 million.

A thunderstorm complex dropped up to 14 inches of rain on Franklin County from about Midnight to 6 am causing the worst flash flooding in county history. The rain fell at a rate of 3 inches an hour from about 2 to 3 am.
The flash flooding event on the 7th and early 8th, became a major flooding event across all of southern and central Missouri through the early afternoon of May 9th.
A breaking ice jam on the Stony River, and the inflow to the Kuskokwim River contributed to significant river rises at Sleetmute and Red Devil by the 7th of May. This resulted in execution of an evacuation plan at Red Devil.
This extraordinary event consisted of three primary waves of severe weather and flooding. The first occurred during the early morning of May 7th.
Thunderstorms moved across the southern half of central Indiana during the early morning hours of May 7. These storms produced heavy rain which lead to extensive flash flooding. Numerous roads were flooded and closed, including some state roads.
Significant flooding occurred throughout Jefferson County. Doppler radar estimated up to 12 inches of rain fell across the county in a few hours, with 5 to 8 inches of the total occurring in just one hour.
Heavy rains forced the Chattahoochee River to flood eastern sections of Chambers County including some sections of Lanett. Chamber County Emergency Management Agency reported that 900 industry, businesses, and homes were affected.
Penny size hail was observed.
Another round of heavy rain producing thunderstorms gave flash flooding. The city of Topeka made nearly 500 water rescues due to the flash flooding. The community of Wakarusa also had a few water rescues as well.
An upper low moved in from the west over a moist southeasterly flow, providing the necessary instability and vertical wind shear for severe weather.

Severe floods occurred in Middle Tennessee, West Tennessee, south-central and western Kentucky, and northern Mississippi areas of the United States as the result of torrential rains on May 1 and 2, 2010. Previous heavy rain and flash flooding on May 4th and 5th caused minor flooding on the Oostanaula River and its associated tributaries.
Thunderstorms developed along a dryline in West Texas and moved into South Central Texas. Some of these storms produced large hail, damaging wind gusts, and heavy rain that led to flash flooding.
From May 5th through May 9th, a ridge from the south of the islands interacted with an equatorial trough to the north. This created high winds on the 6th through the 8th with gusts reaching around 55 mph at WSO Pago Pago.

Strong winds behind a cold front affected the Snake River Plain and Eastern Magic Valley from late morning through the evening hours. Sustained winds of 40 to 45 mph were commonplace.
Wind gusts estimated near 90 mph caused considerable damage at the North Shore Marina, a 105 slip marina on the Mississppi River. Numerous boat docks were destroyed by the wind, with some ripped out of the water and deposited on shore.
A strong low level jet moving over a warm front from Northern Missouri into Central Illinois combined with an upper level disturbance to produce thunderstorms across Iowa and Northern Illinois.
The severe weather that occurred across South Central Nebraska, this Wednesday evening, was produced by a lone supercell storm that tracked east-northeast across Dawson, Buffalo, Sherman, Howard, and Greeley counties.
