May 7, 2012 Earthquake: Zagatala, Azerbaijan

About 50 people injured and at least 3,100 buildings destroyed or damaged in the Balakan-Qax-Zaqatala area by this earthquake and subsequent aftershocks. Some buildings damaged at Dedop'listsqaro and Tbilisi, Georgia. Felt (IV) at Tbilisi. Also felt at K'ut'aisi, Rust'avi and Tsnori.

Fifteen people were injured in the result of the earthquake in Zagatala. Head of the Department of City District Central Hospital clinic Mammadrasul Teyyubov told Trend no one seriously injured in the result of the earthquake. Fifteen people appealed to the hospital after the earthquake. Most of them were injured during the unrest after the earthquake... Currently, Minister of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan Kamaladdin Heydarov, together with the management of the area inspected the territory, which are most affected by the disaster, the executive body of the area told Trend. Houses in some regions are destroyed in the result of the earthquake. Azar, Zayam, Gymyr are affected the most... According to the preliminary information, cracks emerged in some buildings. Aviation and Emergency rescue teams involved in the earthquake area. Aftershocks continue in Zagatala region. Zagatala region is located in the north-west of Azerbaijan in 372 km from Baku. Officials at the country's Ministry of Emergency Situations said around 20 residential buildings near the epicenter were 'seriously damaged' as a result of the earthquake, which also damaged a number of other buildings and partly destroyed the sports hall of a school. At least 15 people were believed to be injured, but none of them were serious or required hospitalization. (reference #9808)
