From the National Hurricane Center and the Central Pacific Hurricane Center: the forecast cone and track, watches and warnings, wind radii, storm surge and wind probabilities from NOAA's tropical map service, the advisories themselves, and every model's forecast track from NHC's guidance files.

How far back does the hurricane history go?

To 1842. The history is NOAA NCEI's International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS), which merges the official best track of every warning agency for every tropical cyclone in every basin. Records before the satellite era, around 1966, miss storms that never met a ship or a coast.

What is the difference between a hurricane, a typhoon and a cyclone?

Only where they form. A tropical cyclone with sustained winds of 64 knots (74 mph) or more is a hurricane in the Atlantic and the eastern and central Pacific, a typhoon in the western Pacific, and a cyclone in the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific.

What is accumulated cyclone energy?

A measure of how active a storm or a season was: the sum of the squares of the maximum sustained wind every six hours while a storm is at tropical storm strength or more, divided by ten thousand. It counts both how strong storms were and how long they lasted.

Most storms before 2005, and most outside the Atlantic and eastern Pacific, have no machine-readable count at all, so this is not a ranking of every deadly storm on record.

Damage in dollars of the year of the storm, not adjusted for inflation. NHC’s figures count the United States only; Wikidata’s count what an editor entered.
