Hurricane Mitch crossed the coast near Pelican Bay, FL as a tropical storm, 55 kt, central pressure 989 mb. It killed 19,325 people in all. Hurricane Mitch was an extremely powerful, deadly and catastrophic tropical cyclone in 1998 that caused 11,374 fatalities in Central America, becoming the second-deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record. It was the deadliest hurricane in Central American history, surpassing Hurricane Fifi–Orlene, which killed slightly fewer people in the same area in 1974.

The thirteenth named storm and seventh hurricane that year, Michelle developed from a tropical wave that had traversed into the western Caribbean Sea on October 29; the wave had initially moved off the coast of Africa 13 days prior.

Hurricane Ida was the strongest landfalling tropical cyclone during the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season, crossing the coastline of Nicaragua with winds of 80 mph (130 km/h). The remnants of the storm became a powerful nor'easter that caused widespread damage along coastal areas of the Mid-Atlantic States.

On this day in 2008, several severe thunderstorms developed ahead of a dry line west of Interstate-35 and marched northeast into central and northern Oklahoma. Large hail and damaging winds were reported with these storms. In parts of Norman and Moore, wind gusts to 65 mph and hail up to the size of baseballs covered the ground. Significant window, roof, and car damage was reported from these storms in Northeast Norman with damage estimates up to $40 million.

Fog combined with smoke from agricultural burning caused very restricted visibilities along highway US97 about 10 miles south of Klamath Falls. A jeep rear-ended a car in the fog/smoke at 07:20 AM, and other vehicles collided with them.

On this date in 2011 at 10:53 PM, one of the strongest recorded earthquakes to shake Oklahoma occurred near Sparks, or about 20 miles north of Shawnee, with a magnitude of 5.7. At least 2 people were injured, with at least 14 homes destroyed and many damaged in the Shawnee and Sparks areas. Parts of U.S. Highway 62 between Meeker and Prague was buckled. This earthquake was felt strongly in much of Oklahoma, southern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, northwestern Arkansas, and northern Texas. At least minor shaking from this earthquake was reported as far away as southern Wisconsin, southern Texas, and western Tennessee.

A nor'easter that developed off the Carolina coast on the night of the 4th caused a pounding surf and beach erosion along the New Jersey Coast on the 5th and 6th. It also claimed the life of a man in Monmouth County. At about 11 a.m.

High Surf conditions due to north to northwest swells affected the north coast of Puerto Rico from November 3rd to November 6th, 2014. Seas between 7 to 9 feet with breaking waves of around 12 to 16 feet were observed. Dangerous Rip Current were also observed.

Shortly after 9AM on November 5, 2025, rescue crews were deployed to The Hook near Capitola as two surfers were reported in distress. One surfer was able to make it past the line of breaking waves, while the other was caught in them.
