The storm was linked to catastrophic flooding in southern Texas and northern Mexico, especially along the Rio Grande and its tributaries.

Large hail and high winds accompanied severe thunderstorms across parts of north-central and southwest Oklahoma on June 25, 1961. Baseball-size hail fell in Lacey, in Kingfisher County, and hail up to the size of golf balls drifted into knee-deep piles in other places. Besides the hail, strong winds gusted to more than 70 mph, and some areas received up to five inches of rain in a short time. According to one report, the wind-driven hail tore the hides off cattle.

Heavy rains struck many parts of Lancaster County, causing flooding of many areas. Hardest hit were northern sections of the county. Five to six inches of rain fell late Sunday afternoon and evening in Lititz, the community hardest hit by flooding.
Thunderstorms developed over Southeast Iowa and West Central Illinois during the afternoon and evening hours producing heavy rain and strong winds of 40 to 60 mph. Rainfall of 2 to 5 inches occurred over a period of a few hours with most of it falling in about an hour.
Isolated thunderstorms affected portions of the Miami Valley during the late afternoon and early evening. Locally heavy rain caused flooding of roads across the eastern portion of the Dayton metro area, and over southern Darke county.
Very slow moving clusters of thunderstorms developed across south-central Wisconsin during the early afternoon hours of June 25th.
One fatality of a heavy rain event occurred on 27 June, when an 8-year old girl in Alleghany county (VA) was apparently swept into a drainage culvert near Dunlap Creek west of Covington.
A weak cold front settled over the forecast area from June 23 until June 27. Waves of low pressure rode northeast along the front. Flow in the atmosphere was parallel to the boundary, producing several rounds of training echoes.
Repeating thunderstorms with torrential downpours dropped up to around one foot of rain across southern parts of Caroline County. This caused extensive roadway, field and stream flooding. Hardest hit was Federalsburg where 11.5 inches of rain fell.
A warm frontal boundary lifted north across Iowa during the day on the 25th and was located over northern Iowa by the evening hours.

A man was found dead on June 25, 1997, with hyperthermia as the probable cause of death. The man had not been seen since 6/20/97. High temperatures during the dates in question had been in the lower to middle 90s.

A 79 year old woman was found dead in her home from heat related causes. The home had an air conditioner and a fan but neither was turned on. The high temperature the previous days had been in the lower 90s.
A pair of hot and humid days in Philadelphia claimed the life of an 86-year-old woman in Philadelphia. She was found dead on June 27th on the second floor bedroom of her home with no fans or air conditioning and just two windows open.

An amplified upper level ridge situated over the West Coast allowed for temperatures to warm up above normal and even briefly reach excessive heat conditions across parts of the lower deserts.
