A TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN ALONG US HWY 45 NEAR GULF CREST AND THEN MOVED NORTHEAST FOR ABOUT 2 MILES. THREE PEOPLE WERE INJURED AND ONE OF THESE DIED IN A LOCAL HOSPITAL ABOUT A WEEK LATER. TWO ELDERLY WOMEN WERE IN A TRAILER THAT WAS TURNED OVER BY THE TORNADO.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms moved over the metro area, re-flooding the neighborhoods surrounding Chicken Ranch Slough, which had just experienced flooding the previous 22nd. The flooding was higher and caused additional damage to 500 more homes.

A plume of moisture from the tropical Pacific brought an Atmospheric River to the Bay Area January 26th-29th. This system generated heavy rain rates causing flooding and debris flows over area burn scars as well as 15 to 20 inches of rain in the Santa Lucia Mountains.

The Chicago blizzard of 1967 struck northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana on January 26–27, 1967, with a record-setting 23 inches (58 cm) snow fall in Chicago and its suburbs before the storm abated the next morning. As of 2026, it remains the greatest snowfall in one storm in Chicago history.

Strong winds and heavy snow reduced the visibility to less than one quarter mile at times. Many roads reported impassable in Eau Claire and Dunn counties. Eau Claire received 9 inches of snow, Menomonie 8 inches and Barron 6 inches.
