Two reports of large hail were received from West Deptford Township. Quarter-size hail fell in the Verga area while penny-size hail fell elsewhere within the township.
A warm front which was across central Ohio at peak heating on the 26th became the focus for a Mesoscale Convective System that lasted well into the early morning hours on the 27th. Severe thunderstorms moved repeatedly over the same areas causing substantial damage.
A stationary frontal boundary was located east to west across northern Iowa during the predawn hours. Thunderstorms erupted along this boundary in the very unstable air. Dew point temperatures were around 80 degrees F. with CAPE values near 5000 J/kg.
After a brief break of about five hours, thunderstorms began to erupt in Iowa once again.

An upper air disturbance moves east just north of a frontal boundary that helped to trigger severe weather. The severe weather that included one of the strongest tornadoes in Montana history started in far southern Saskatchewan and moved southeast across the area.
Warm mid level temperatures held back convection until the mid evening of the 26th, when a line of thunderstorms flared up north of Devils Lake. As these thunderstorms moved east, they began to bow and produce strong straight line winds at the surface.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch number 537 was issued for west and north central North Dakota in the late afternoon hours of Monday, July 26th.

On the afternoon of July 26th, a significant severe weather event impacted portions of the Binghamton, NY forecast area.
Supercells crossed into northwest Nebraska the evening of July 26 and produced severe wind gusts and large hail in Sheridan and Cherry counties and two tornadoes in northeast Sheridan County near Gordon. The storms grew upscale into a MCS and eventually a bow echo.

Typhoon Dolphin was a powerful, large and very long-lived tropical cyclone that affected East China. The thirteenth named storm, fifth typhoon and third violent typhoon of the 2026 Pacific typhoon season, Dolphin originated from a disturbance near the International Date Line in the Central Pacific in mid-July.

A series of thunderstorm complexes over central and south central Missouri produced widespread flooding. Cooperative weather stations reported over 8 inches of rain at Versailles (Morgan County), Rolla (Phelps County, and Salem (Dent County).
Early morning thunderstorms dropped 3 to 6 inches of rain over the northern portions of Smith county. At a residence northwest of Smith Center, the five and a half inch rain gauge overflowed. Other reports include 4.75 at Athol and 3.68 in Smith Center.
Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms were along and south of a cold front. Areas of Fayette and Raleigh Counties were just recovering from the floods on the 8th, when renewed flooding hit.
Localized downpours occurred just south of Grundy. Private bridges were washed away. Grundy airport measured 3.8 inches, Vansant had 5.9 inches in about a 12 hour period. The sheriff reported Garden Creek, Dry Fork, and Greenbrier Creek were some of the streams that flooded.
A wall of water swept a woman and two teenage girls off their feet and washed them downstream. The two girls where rescued by local officials, however the woman could not be saved.
After receiving heavy rain on the 22nd, rains of 2.5 to 4 inches fell on saturated ground. Hawks Nest State Park measured 3.7 inches in their 24 hour report, that included the afternoon of the 26th.
July began with very dry weather. An average of only .36 inches of rain fell over the first 17 days of the month. This was about 2 inches less than normal. Rainfall averaged about an inch more than normal during the final two weeks of July.
Former hurricane Dolly brought tropical moisture into New Mexico, dumping up to seven inches of rain around Ruidoso. This caused the Rio Ruidoso and Rio Bonito to rise well above flood stage and resulted in widespread and serious flooding around Ruidoso.
A pre-frontal trough followed by a potent cold front caused multiple severe thunderstorms some of which produced flash flooding across Northeast New Jersey.
A hot, very moist, tropical air mass remained in place across the region. The persistent subtropical ridge had shifted just to the southeast of Georgia. A cold front was near the Georgia-Tennessee border.
Scattered severe thundersrtorms across the CWA produced wet microburst with wind gust to 80mph taking down trees and powerlines. Large hail was also reported.
A strong low and disturbance in the upper levels of the atmosphere moved southeast across southern Quebec, impacting portions of eastern New York and western New England Wednesday, July 26th.
Scattered strong storms developed during the afternoon of July 26th. These storms, developing in an environment of strong instability and dry air aloft, produced scattered wind damage which was most concentrated in the Bluegrass Region.
Multiple lines of severe thunderstorms developed and moved east across the Ohio valley ahead of a strong cold front.
Isolated thunderstorms developed just north of the Whitewater-Baldy burn scar during the early afternoon and within an hour, isolated strong thunderstorms were directly over the burn scar that caused flooding in local creeks.
The final week of July saw even more flash flooding across Utah. The afternoons of July 26 and 27 were especially destructive, with record-breaking rainfall and widespread flooding. An isolated severe thunderstorm was also recorded during this period of time.
A strong jet began to carve out an unseasonably deep trough across the upper midwest early on the 27th of July. Low pressure deepened as it moved across the eastern Great Lakes late on that same day.
A stationary front provided the focus for concentrated thunderstorms across the Northern Tier counties in Pennsylvania. Rainfall estimates of 2 to 3 inches fell in a very short period of time, causing localized flash flooding in the area.
Heavy rain fell across portions of central and southern Iowa during the last week of July. This led to flooding at a few locations along the Des Moines River and also on Walnut Creek and the Middle River.
Isolated and very slow moving thunderstorms caused heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
A back door cold front that shifted southwest through eastern New Mexico on the 25th provided a reinforcing blast of low level moisture for the Rio Grande Valley on the 26th.
One person was killed in a single vehicle accident as thunderstorms with heavy rain moved across western Wisconsin during the afternoon of July 26th. The accident occurred on State Highway 56 east of Liberty (Vernon County).
Modest low level moisture and good mid level moisture combined with an area of surface convergence to produce significant rainfall across central Sierra County.

A severe thunderstorm in the Mustang area produced a damaging downburst on July 26, 1986. The intense, but small, area of high winds damaged many homes and businesses, blew down many trees, and collapsed the wall of a Baptist church.

An isolated thunderstorm moved onshore from Lake Ontario. The thunderstorm winds downed numerous trees in the town of Phelps.
A severe thunderstorm blew down numerous trees throughout the town of Allagash. Large hail also accumulated up to six inches deep.
Severe thunderstorms redeveloped in eastern Oklahoma during the morning of July 26th. Thunderstorm winds gusted to 60 mph two miles west of Canadian, and large tree limbs were blown down by strong winds four miles northwest of Hollow.
Late afternoon thunderstorms reached severe limits with numerous reports of wind damage to trees and power lines. Hardest hit was Dane County where wires were down in 500 places and 15,000 customers experienced power outages.
A line of thunderstorms developed in Iowa and pushed southward into northwest Missouri. The early storms produced large hail in the northwest corner of Missouri, but later evolved into a significant wind event.

Several trees were reported down.
Severe thunderstorms developed ahead of an approaching cold front. The thunderstorms produced measured winds gusting to near 60 mph which downed trees and power lines. Trees reportedly fell on houses in Avon, Gowanda and Naples.
A line of severe thunderstorms raced southeast onshore from Lake Erie during the late afternoon hours of the 26th. At Burke Lakefront Airport, seven aircraft received either major damage or were totally destroyed as the 75 mph winds blew onshore.

This event will be remembered for the extreme intensity of large hail it generated. A most unusual hailstorm pounded areas in a 3 mile radius around the city of Durand. Severe hail fell for nearly an hour. At times, the hail was as big as golf balls.

An unseasonably warm and humid air mass combined with an approaching surface trof to produce strong to severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening across New Jersey.
Showers and thunderstorms developed in the afternoon and evening along a surface trough across central North Carolina, in a warm and moist atmosphere. A mid level shear axis crossed the area during the evening helping to intensive the thunderstorms.
Severe thunderstorms developed in the late afternoon north of Houston and produced several reports of hail and wind damage.
A strong cold front moved across Southern New England, providing enough lift for showers and thunderstorms to develop. A large area of instability ahead of the front was enough for these storms to become severe, producing large hail and damaging winds.
A passing warm front triggered multiple severe thunderstorms across the Lower Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island.
A mid-level ridge remained in place over the Southern Plains, with weak northwest flow continuing across the Southeast. Left over outflow boundaries from convection on the 25th helped to focus development on the 26th.
Multiple lines of severe thunderstorms developed and moved east across the Ohio valley ahead of a strong cold front.
Strong upper level winds combined with an unstable airmass to produce widespread convection during the afternoon hours. The primary threats from these storms were damaging winds and large hail.
During the predawn hours on this Saturday, an MCS developed over central South Dakota. This cluster of storms propagated southeastward and gradually weakened during the morning hours. However, as it crossed into northeastern Nebraska just after 11 a.m.
Damaging winds and large hail occurred over Furnas county late on this Thursday afternoon. Before that occurred, an area of scattered thunderstorms developed across the Nebraska Sandhills during the early afternoon.
A nearly stationary front with a weak surface low along it resulted in scattered thunderstorms with isolated severe thunderstorms across southeast Virginia on July 26.
Severe thunderstorms produced large hail over mainly east-central portions of South Central Nebraska on this late Tuesday afternoon and evening.

A brief heat wave hit Central Illinois persisting for a little less than 48 hours from July 26the to July 27th. Temperatures ranged from 95 to 100 degrees both days with heat index values ranging from 105 to 115 degrees.
High temperatures were in the upper 90s to around 100 degrees for three consecutive days. High humidity pushed heat index values to between 105 and 115 degrees. An air conditioning unit failed on an office building in Cape Girardeau.

A three day heat wave brought record high temperatures to western Oregon July 26-28.
A period of very hot temperatures with highs ranging from the upper 90s to near 105 and lows ranging from the lower 70s to near 80, affected portions of central and southwest Oklahoma from July 26th through July 31st.
Beginning on the 23rd of July, high temperatures eacy day reached between 95 and 105 degrees. These hot temperatures combined with high humidity contributed to the deaths of a few people during this period.
Two persons were found dead in their homes in Blytheville due to the heat.
Excessive heat claimed the life of a man in North Little Rock. He was found dead on a local street.
High temperatures between July 26th and July 28th only reached the upper 80s to near 90, but overnight low temperatures remained in the lower to middle 70s, adding to the prolonged affect of heat. Two fatalities were reported in Cook county.
High temperatures across Central, Eastern and Southeast Missouri rose to the middle to upper 90's with Heat Indices from 105 to near 115 degrees. There was a one day break in the heat as a weak cold front dropped high temperatures into the upper 80's on July29.
Excessive heat and humidity covered west central Missouri from July 26th through July 27th. Afternoon heat indices ranged from 103 to 106 degrees. A 53 year old Clay county male died from heat related causes.
One person died of heat stress.
A woman died of heat-related causes in Death Valley National Park.
An unseasonably hot and one of the most humid air masses of the summer combined to produce afternoon hourly heat indices of between 100F to 105F. High temperatures themselves were in the lower to mid 90s. There was one heat related death within Philadelphia.
Three people died in Las Vegas of heat-related causes.
Very hot and humid conditions persist across North and Central Georgia.

Ponca City’s temperature dropped to 56 degrees, breaking a record by 5 degrees, while Hobart cooled to 58 degrees, breaking their record by 7 degrees. Wichita Falls broke a record that stood for 80 years, with a low temperature of 63 degrees, and Oklahoma City tied a record standing 93 years, by registering the same temperature of 63.

A man was caught in a severe rip current and drowned in the Gulf of Mexico, while trying to retreive 2 children who had floated out in the gulf on a raft.

As a cold front approached, south winds increased across the region. Strong rip currents caused the death of one 10 year old girl at Coney Island Beach and the death of one 29 year old man in Long Beach.
A west to northwest wind of 10 to 15 knots stirred up waves along the southeast shore of Lake Michigan, resulting in favorable conditions for rip currents to develop. A 57 year old man drowned as a result of being caught in a rip current at the Warren Dunes State park.
A group of eight people were caught in a rip current near Ocean Shores. They all eventually escaped to shore, but one person went back in to the water to help others. He was then swept out to sea and became missing, presumed drowned.
