A tornado destroyed 4 house trailers that were unoccupied. Debris was scattered for about 1 mile, according to county emergency management.
The tornado developed just south of Giddings, moving toward the northeast as it destroyed a barn and a mobile home. The tornado crossed SH 290 and damaged a nursery along with several small sheds before dissipating.
F1 tornado caused intermittent minor roof damage to several residences in its path. A trailer was overturned which caused damage to a vehicle next to it. Pine tree limbs of up to a foot in diameter were snapped off.

Higher water levels were reached than during the devastating North Sea flood of 1953 from North Shields to King's Lynn, but values were lower towards the Thames.

A strong low pressure produced large waves and high winds which occurred at the high astronomical tide to cause coastal flooding along the Pacific coast counties and in the Bays as well.
Hundreds of large trees came crashing down after the ground became too saturated to keep them standing. Felled trees caused extensive damage to property all across the county.
Heavy rains and rapid snow melt caused extensive flooding along the Virgin River and the Muddy Rivers in southern Lincoln and northeast Clark counties. Over 200 homes in the Overton, Mesquite, Caliente, and Littlefield areas were damaged or destroyed by flood waters.
Rock and mudslides closed Highways 18, 330, 138, and 173. Huge sinkholes opened up on Highway 330. Flash Flooding undermined portions of Highway 18. Flooding made Highway 138 impassible. Huge boulders littered many stretches of all major mountain highways.
Officials were forced to release water from Lake Arrowhead after heavy rains filled the lake to capacity. The release sent water rushing into an already full Mojave River.
After a 3 day reprieve from precipitation, more rain with embedded thunderstorms, crossed southeast Ohio during the afternoon and evening on the 11th. Rains of 1.25 to 1.75 inches were common, with isolated amounts over 2 inches. Nelsonville measured 2.25 inches.
About a half dozen homes were seriously damaged in Oceanside after the hill underneath them gave way.
An Amtrak train derailed west of Grand Junction in Ruby Canyon after it hit a 12 foot by 12 foot boulder. Three engines and five cars went off the tracks. An Amtrak spokesman said the accident injured four crew and two passengers "in the category of bumps and bruises."
11 homes were evacuated because of flooding along Poway Creek. Flooding along Rattlesnake Creek damaged 1 home, a city park, and 2 vehicles. Another vehicle was destroyed by a falling tree.
A widespread area of showers and thunderstorms ahead of a warm front affected much of central and western Ohio. One to three inches of rain fell across the region, exacerbating existing flooding from previous rains and snowmelt.
11 units of a hotel were destroyed by mud and water. A senior citizen center was flooded in Crestline. Heavy rains brought Lake Arrowhead to within 5 feet of spilling.
A large mudslide in Moonridge destroyed 2 homes. The residents were out of town at the time and thus escaped injury.
About a half dozen homes and a golf course were flooded after the Sweetwater River overflowed its banks in Bonita and Chula Vista.
By 640 PM on 11th, Rte 2 was flooded in New Martinsville and CR 3 closed by flood at the intersection of Doolin Run Rd. By 7 PM, State Rtes 7 and 20 closed by flooding and mud slides near New Martinsville. As of 430 AM on 12th, Rte 20 was still flooded near Reader.
The combination of rain and warm temperatures resulted in an ice jam on Buffalo Creek likely near the confluence of Buffalo and Cayuga Creeks. The Lexington Green neighborhood in the Town of West Seneca was inundated by water.
An unseasonably warm Pacific storm system brought rain to the Mojave Desert.
Strong northeast winds gusting as high as 50 mph produced waves as high as 18 feet along the Lake Michigan shore of northeast Illinois. These high waves combined with high lake levels produced flooding, erosion and damage.
Strong low pressure passing by to the southeast resulted in an extended period of strong north to northeast winds along the Lake Michigan shoreline of southeast and east central Wisconsin.

Gusty winds accompanied the passage of a deepening storm system crossing the upper Great Lakes. Wind gusts were measured to 64 mph at Dunkirk, Batavia and Niagara Falls Airport. Other wind gusts included: 60 mph at Buffalo Airport and 58 mph at Fort Drum and Rochester Airport.
A strong storm system moved through the Great Lakes on the 11th and 12th. Ahead of this system, temperatures on the afternoon of the 11th soared into the 70s and low 80s, driven by strong southerly winds. Gusts were regularly measured in the 40-50 mph range.

Heavy snow developed across southeast West Virginia during the evening hours on the 11th. Snowfall amounts were generally from 7 to 9 inches.
A historic winter storm brought death and destruction to Utah during this 3 day period in January. Initially a moist westerly flow was in place over the state. Then a strong arctic front blew through on the 12th creating blizzard conditions.
An avalanche killed 3 hikers. The hikers left on Dec. 27th, didn't return on the 29th as expected and weren't found until Jan 11th. They were found buried in an avalanche near Index.
The second winter storm in less than a week dumped another 20 to 45 inches of fresh snow across northern New Mexico in a period of 48 to 72 hours.
A second strong cold front moved into central Texas on the evening of Friday, January 10th, and again temperatures began to drop steadily across the area. Again, an upper level disturbance moving through the southwestern U.S.
A broad Pacific trough moved through the region. High winds occurred with the cold front on the 11th. Some of the highest gusts included: Mt. Ogden 107 mph (93kts), Hidden Peak 71 mph (62kts), Bountiful 50 mph (43kts), NWSFO SLC 47 mph (41kts) and Logan 43 mph (37kts).
Two skiers were killed in a large avalanche in the backcountry near The Canyons ski resort. The slide from Square Top Peak was estimated to be near 500 feet wide and 5 feet deep, with a vertical drop of 1000 feet.
A sharp cold front crossed western and central New York late on the 10th. Lake effect snow developed overnight in the cold, westerly flow.
After a brief lull, lake effect snow activity picked up again during the early morning hours as cold winds blowing across Lake Erie became more westerly. The snow peaked in intensity during the middle part of the day.

A low pressure system produced an inch or two of snow in east-central Wisconsin as it moved from Illinois to Lake Huron. A woman was killed (indirect) in a three-vehicle crash on State Highway 55 just south of County Highway VV.

A man from Gamerco died from exposure in west Gallup. Overnight weather was clear and cold with a low of 16 degrees.

Temperatures plunged below zero in far southeast Michigan during the early morning hours of the 11th. At Detroit Metro Airport, the morning low was -4 degrees. The cold resulted in over 120 water main breaks in the city of Detroit.
An extended period of below normal temperatures was observed as a Polar vortex in the northeastern United States provided a cold northwest flow to the region. A series of Canadian/Arctic air masses invaded the region during the period.
A relatively dry north-to-south cold-frontal passage resulted in an intrusion of very cold arctic air into Central California on the morning of Thursday, January 11th.
An intrusion of very cold arctic air into Central California began on the morning of the 11th and continued until the 24th. Minimum temperatures in the Central and Southern San Joaquin Valley plunged into the mid teens in the very coldest locations.
Low temperatures were in the upper teens to near 20 on January 12th. An 85 year old female died on Cold Spring Road in Arlington Heights due to cold exposure.
Below zero temperatures in Farmington led to the death of a 47 year old woman. The woman was a transient who was living in a tent in an area located approximately one mile off East Main Street across from Memory Gardens.
Morning lows on January 11th dipped into the range of 5 to 10 degrees below zero.
