The Jacobs Creek flood, also referred to as the Kansas Turnpike flash flood, was a flash flood of the Jacobs Creek that occurred on the night of August 30, 2003, 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Emporia, Kansas, on the Kansas Turnpike. The deadly flash flood occurred on Labor Day weekend and killed six people, five inside of vehicles swept away by the floodwaters and one person who was attempting to rescue those trapped.

Severe thunderstorms moved south across western Oklahoma on this date in 1959, leaving several swaths of extensive hail damage. The Weatherford area was especially hard hit. Hail up to golf ball size caused severe damage to roofs and windows on almost all homes and buildings in the Weatherford area. Other hail paths, some of which caused 100 percent crop damage, extended from Dill City, south to the Red River in Cotton County, over Grandfield, Granite, and Headrick. The storms continued into north Texas, where wind damage was reported in the Burkburnett, Wichita Falls, Iowa Park, and Henrietta areas. Wind gusts to 75 mph were measured.

A thirty-two year old male from Georgia drowned while swimming in rough surf at an unguarded beach east of Casio Beach. The male went swimming with a friend when he got into trouble in the rough surf. The friend was able to make it ashore but the man drowned.
