Tornadoes and Damaging Winds in Georgia, January 11, 2020

Numerous reports were received from the Paulding County Emergency Manager, the public and local news media of trees, power lines and signs blown down as well as wind damage to the roofs of some homes and businesses across the county in a swath at least 15 miles wide from just east of Draketown to east of Wood Valley. Several homes and businesses also received damage from trees falling onto the structures. No injuries were reported.

Numerous reports were received from the Hall County Emergency Manager, the public and local news media of trees and power lines blown down as well as wind damage to the roofs of some homes and businesses across the county in a swath at least 15 miles wide from Oakwood to Clermont. Several homes and businesses, and at least one vehicle, also received damage from falling trees. No injuries were reported.

An amateur radio operator reported multiple trees blown down at Hog Jowl Road and Cove Road.

The Dade County Emergency Manager reported trees blown down from west of Trenton on Sand Mountain Highway to south of Trenton near I-59.

The local print media reported several trees blown down from the Cedartown area to Rockmart. A portion of the metal roof was peeled off of a motel in Cedartown.

The Gordon County Emergency Manager reported 40 to 50 trees blown down across the county.

The broad cast media reported a wall was blown in at a store in Bremen.

The Bartow County Emergency Manager and an amateur radio operator reported trees blown down from the Taylorsville and Euharlee areas to near Adairsville along I-75. A portion of the roof was blown off of a church in Euharlee.

The Floyd County Emergency Manager reported several trees blown down on a tree farm near Rome.

The Carroll County Emergency Manager reported trees down across the northern portions of the county from around Carrollton to near Draketown.

The Gilmer County Emergency Manager reported numerous trees and power lines blown down across the county in a swath at least 15 miles wide from northwest through southeast of Ellijay.

A National Weather Service survey team found that an EF0 tornado with maximum wind speeds of 85 mph and a maximum path width of 400 yards touched down north of Hiram along Macland Road just west of Hiram-Acworth Highway. The tornado traveled east-northeast with mostly weak and intermittent damage, the most notable occurring on Cristy Drive where a dozen large trees were snapped or uprooted. One tree fell on the master bedroom of a 2-story home. The tornado continued causing sporadic damage as it moved east-northeast crossing into western Cobb County near the intersection of Poplar Springs Road and Puryear Path. A National Weather Service survey team found that an EF0 tornado with maximum wind speeds of 85 mph and a maximum path width of 400 yards that touched down north of Hiram in Paulding County moved east-northeast into western Cobb County near the intersection of Poplar Springs Road and Puryear Path. The tornado caused mostly sporadic, weak damage as it crossed Mill creek and Corner Road SW but downed 15 to 20 trees in the Oakleigh subdivision near the intersection of Lost Mountain Road and Kingsbridge Pass before ending along Oakleigh Manor Drive SW. The Douglas County Emergency Manager reported trees and power lines blown down from northwest of Douglasville to near Chapel Hill.

Storm spotters reported trees blown down from Henderson Mountain Road southwest of Jasper into Jasper.

The broadcast media reported a large tree blown down across Double Churches Road near the I-185 overpass.

An amateur radio operator reported trees blown down near the intersection of Norfolk Drive NW and Wade Green Road.

The public reported trees and power lines blown down near Happy Valley Estates Drive.

A National Weather Service survey team found that an EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 100 mph and a maximum path width of 450 yards touched down along Deep Hole |Campground Road south of the Morganton Highway, Georgia Highway 60, and traveled east-northeast along Morganton Highway, intensifying and downing hundreds of trees along the highway. A 40 foot steel radio tower at a Fannin County Fire Station was blown down and at least four homes suffered damage from fallen trees. The tornado weakened and turned northeast along Cooper Creek Road downing sporadic trees before finally dissipating near the Union County line near the Davis Family Cemetery off of Mulky Gap Road. The Harris County Emergency Manager reported trees blown down on Ingram Road between Warm Springs Road and West Chatfield Road.

The Forsyth County Emergency Manager reported trees and power lines blown down from west of Coal Mountain to Lake Lanier Islands.

The broadcast media reported a tree blown down onto power lines near Cascade Elementary School on Venetian Drive.

The Cherokee County Emergency Manager reported a tree blown down onto a building near the intersection of Atherton Lane and Eagle Drive.

The Talbot County Emergency Manager reported a few trees and power lines blown down From west of Geneva to near Woodland.

The Gwinnett County Emergency Manager reported two trees blown down along Hillcrest Drive. One tree fell onto a vehicle.

The Union County Emergency Manager reported a parked airplane overturned by the wind at the Blairsville Municipal Airport.

The AWOS at the Blairsville Municipal Airport recorded a 61 mph wind gust.

The DeKalb County Emergency Manager and local broadcast media reported several trees and power lines blown down from Brookhaven to Decatur. One tree fell onto a home in Brookhaven, no injuries were reported.

The Lumpkin County Emergency Manager reported a tree blown down near the intersection of Auraria Drive and Blackburn Road.

A National Weather Service survey team found that an EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 90 mph and a maximum path width of 100 yards began along the Flint River on the Meriwether-Upson County line south-southeast of Woodbury. The tornado traveled about a third of a mile along the north shore of the river in Upson County with no damage on the Meriwether County side of the river. Approximately 100 trees and several power poles were snapped or blown down. A camper was blown over and a boat was blown into a tree. A home along the river was knocked off of its stilts and destroyed by a large tree falling on it. At least one other home sustained damage from falling trees. The broadcast media reported a tree blown down across Highway 74 East at Parkway Drive in Thomaston.

The Dawson County Emergency Manager reported a tree blown down onto a transformer sparking a brush fire on Kelly Bridge Road.

The White County Emergency Manager reported trees blown down from Cleveland and Helen to Leaf. Near Cleveland, a tree fell onto a vehicle, one occupant had minor injuries. In Hellen several business reported damage to signs.

The Butts County Emergency Manager reported trees blown down near the intersection of Highway 36 and East Ball Road.

The Marion County Emergency Manager reported several trees blown down from northwest through southeast of Buena Vista.

The public reported a tree blown down across Yonah Homer Road near Garland White Road.

The Taylor County Emergency Manager reported trees blown down near the intersection of Wesley Church Road and Lawdon Road.

The Morgan County Emergency Manager reported a large tree blown near the intersection of Bethany Road and Baldwin Dairy Road.

The Macon County Emergency Manager reported a few trees blown down from Whitewater Creek State Park to Oglethorpe.

The Macon-Bibb Emergency Manager reported trees and power lines blown down on Corbin Avenue between North and South Nancelon Circles.

The Houston County Emergency Manager reported a few trees and power lines blown down from near Elko to Sand Bed and Warner Robins.

The Baldwin County Emergency Manager reported numerous trees blown down from Meriwether to Milledgeville, including one tree that fell onto a house on Verndale Road in Milledgeville.

The Johnson County Emergency Manager reported several trees blown down near the intersection of Friendship Church Road and Highway 23.

The Dodge County Emergency Manager reported a power line blown down on Highway 280 in Rhine.

The Wilkes County Emergency Manager reported a tree blown down on Lovelace Way in Washington.

The Hancock County Emergency Manager reported trees blown down near the intersection of Highway 22 East and Old Crawfordville Highway.
