A group of seven tourists walked out into a dunes area in Death Valley National Park during the heat of the day. As they returned to their vehicles, one collapsed and died. Three others were treated for heat-related illnesses.
As the offices recorded each death: direct deaths were caused by the weather itself, indirect ones by something it set in motion.
