The focal mechanism of the 2024 Yauca earthquake indicated a reverse fault, consistent with the subduction tectonics. The rupture propagated in a NW-SE direction, parallel to the Peruvian coast. The earthquake triggered a moderate tsunami. The Direcci´on de Hidrografía y Navegaci´on (DHN; Peruvian Tsunami Warning Center) issued a tsunami warning for the Peruvian coastline. And the warning was cancelled at 09:44, approximately 4 h after the earthquake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a tsunami warning for the whole Pacific region. The tsunami did not cause any direct casualties or property damage. (reference #14018)
