• Wildfire in Florida, June 1 to 8, 20071 eventLightning on May 4th sparked a wildfire which lasted for over a month at the Big Cypress National Preserve.
• Wildfire in Oregon, June 1 to 3, 20071 eventThe Crooked Saddle wildfire burned 300 acres south of Culver.
• Wildfire in Hawaii, June 4 to 6, 20071 eventA fire 2.5 miles northeast of Maunaloa in the western part of Molokai scorched 3000 acres of brush. • Wildfire in Hawaii, June 14 to 17, 20071 eventA fire blackened 600 acres of mainly brush 7 miles east of Waikoloa Village on the lee side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Dry conditions in the area, along with winds occasionally gusting to 20 mph, were factors in the spread of the fire.
• Wildfire in Idaho, June 17 to 21, 20071 eventThe Howard wildfire begain on June 17th in the hills just to the southwest of the city of Pocatello. The 1,650 acre grass and brush fire was considered contained on June 21st. No buildings or sturctures were damaged.

The fire was started on June 20th and considered contained by June 24th. No structures or buildings were damaged.

Voluntary evacuations were ordered at one point for some residents in Whispering Pines, but no homes were burned. The fire was human-caused.

• Wildfire in Idaho, July 4 to 6, 20071 eventA wildfire began on July 4th about 10 miles northwest of St Anthony. It was a grass and brush fire that burned about 1100 acres. The Red Road north of the Sand Hills resort between Fremont and clark County was closed due to the fire on the 4th.
• Wildfire in Idaho, July 4 to 25, 20071 eventA wildfire began July 4th southeast of Malta and eventually burned 73,000 acres of grass, brush and juniper and threatened homes and farms in the area. The fire was considered contained on July 25th.
• Wildfire in California, July 5 to 7, 20071 eventA wildfire occurred between the 6th and 7th, called the Rock 2 fire. The ignition time was around midnight on the 5th. The cause of the fire was unknown. The location was 14 miles east of Porterville in Tulare County.

• Wildfire in Idaho, July 6 to 9, 2007$10,000 · 1 eventIntense 50 to 60 mph thunderstorm winds caused a small wildfire of 1000 acres to grow and spread rapidly to 45,862 acres just south and southeast of Shoshone. No homes were damaged, but 5 outbuildings were destroyed and 5 were damaged.
• Wildfire in Arizona, July 6 to 14, 20071 eventThe Birdie Fire was started by lightning on July 6th about 4 miles southwes 0f Mormon Lake Village. Over 650 people were able to contain the fire at about 5,000 acres by July 14th.
• Wildfire in Washington, July 7 to 14, 20071 eventThe Little Chopaka Fire, centered three miles west of Nighthawk, burned 4,428 acres.
• Wildfire in Washington, July 7 to 11, 2007$500 · 1 eventThe Easy Street Fire, centered four miles northwest of Wenatchee, was a human caused fire that burned 5,209 acres. One outbuilding was lost in the fire.
• Wildfire in Colorado, July 8 to 10, 2007$200,000 · 1 eventA fast moving wildfire burned a home near the small town of Marvel.
• Wildfire in Idaho, July 8 to 11, 20071 eventA 580 acre wildfire was started by lightning on the 8th. The grass and brush fire was just to the north of Preston came within a quarter mile of homes on the afternoon of the 9th but no homes were evacuated. The Red Point and Maple Grove campgrounds were closed on the 9th.
• Wildfire in Idaho, July 8 to 10, 20071 eventA 604 acre grass and brush fire was started by lightning on the 8th north of St Anthony and was contained by the 10th. No structures were threatened.
• Wildfire in Texas, July 8 to 9, 20071 eventLightning sparked a large wildfire about twenty-one miles north northeast of Dalhart. This fire burned five hundred and forty-four acres. No damage or injuries were reported.
• Wildfire in Washington, July 9 to 11, 20071 eventA wildfire three miles north of Palisades was human caused and burned 3,156 acres.
• Wildfire in California, July 10 to 19, 20071 eventLightning ignited several clusters of wildfires in Northern California on 07/10/2007. One of the fires became know as the Fletcher fire in extreme northern Modoc County in California and a small portion burned into Lake County in Oregon.

A Red Flag Warning for dry lightning was in effect when these fires started. The fires burned into August.

• Wildfire in Washington, July 13 to 15, 20071 eventThe Tolo Fire, centered 13 miles northwest of Stehekin, was a lightning caused fire that burned 293 acres. The containment date of the fire is estimated to be July 15th.
• Wildfire in Washington, July 13 to 16, 20072 eventsLightning strikes triggered two large wildfires in Whitman County. One fire occurred near Hooper and burned 10,200 acres. The other fire burned near Dusty and burned 5,500 acres.
• Wildfire in Idaho, July 13 to 28, 20071 eventThe Chimney Complex Fire, centered 19 miles south of Lewiston, was a lightning caused fire that burned around 51,000 acres. Several road closures resulted from the fire.
• Wildfire in Idaho, July 13 to 18, 20071 eventThe Coyote Creek Fire, centered nine miles east of Lewiston, was a human caused fire that burned over 1,000 acres. The fire destroyed one home, severely burned a power pole, and briefly closed a stretch of highway 12 near Spalding.
• Wildfire in Washington, July 13 to 21, 20071 eventThe Windy Ridge Fire, centered eight miles northwest of Metaline Falls, was a lightning caused fire that burned 362 acres.
• Wildfire in Washington, July 13 to 18, 20071 eventAbundant lightning and dry vegetation caused a 28,575 acre wildfire 9 miles north northeast of Roosevelt.
• Wildfire in Washington, July 14 to 21, 20071 eventThe Tunk Grade Fire, centered 11 miles north of Omak, was a lightning caused fire that burned 15,540 acres. Ten outbuildings and one structure were lost in the fire.
• Wildfire in Idaho, July 16 to 31, 20071 eventFifteen-hundred acre heavy timber and douglas fir fire 15 miles north of Challis. Threatened structures but caused no damage.
• Wildfire in California, July 16 to 20, 20071 eventThe Willow wildfire occurred in Kings Canyon National Park. The location was 22 miles east of Three Rivers in Tulare County. The cause of the wildfire was dry lightning. The size of the wildfire was 110 acres.
• Wildfire in Idaho, July 19 to 20, 20071 eventA wildfire started just to the east of Atomic City on the 19th and burned 9,436 acres of sagebrush and timber. US Highway 20 from Idaho Falls to its junction with US HIghway 26 was shut down. INL was forced to close its Materials and Fuels Complex for the day.

• Wildfire and Damaging Winds in Florida, July 20, 200752 kt wind · 4 eventsA short wave upper level trough in concert with the sea breeze and high daytime instability spawned scattered severe storms across the forecast area during the late afternoon and evening hours.
• Wildfire in California, July 21 to 22, 20071 eventThe Digier wildfire occurred 2 miles northwest of Lebec in Kern County. The size of the wildfire was 364 acres. There were no damages or injuries. The cost for containment was unknown.
• Wildfire and Hail in Florida, July 21, 20071 in hail · 19 eventsAn un-seasonal amplified upper level trough and attendant surface front moved into the forecast area during the afternoon and evening hours.
• Wildfire in Oregon, July 22 to 25, 20071 eventA human caused wildfire burned 746 acres 5 miles east southeast of Gateway.
• Wildfire in Montana, July 24 to 27, 20071 eventThunderstorms sparked a wildfire early on the 24th 5 to 10 miles southeast of Malta. Gusty winds behind a cold front allowed this fire to grow to approximately 5660 acres before being exhausted on the 26th.
• Wildfire in South Dakota, July 27, 20071 eventA grassland fire was sparked by haying equipment 5 miles east and 2 miles south of Presho. With strong winds and low humidity, the fire spread quickly northeast and burned nearly 100 acres of hay and prairie grass.
• Wildfire in Hawaii, July 27 to 28, 20071 eventA fire burned more than 3000 acres of dry brush about 2.5 miles northeast of Waikoloa Village in the South Kohala District on the Big Island of Hawaii. The blaze threatened no structures as it burned Friday and Saturday, 27 and 28 July.

• Wildfire in Washington, August 2 to 11, 20071 eventA helicopter crash, which claimed 4 lives, started a wildfire 3 miles southwest of Easton. The fire burned 400 acres of timber land.
• Wildfire in Oregon, August 2 to 9, 20071 eventA wildfire burned 2700 acres, 5 outbuildings, and 1 residence, 9 miles southeast of Fossil. The fire also burned grass, brush, and timberlands in steep and difficult terrain.
• Wildfire in Washington, August 2 to 7, 20071 eventThe Crow Creek Fire was human caused and burned a little over 100 acres 7 miles northwest of Cliffdell.
• Wildfire in New Jersey, August 3 to 6, 20071 eventA forest fire started in Wharton State Forest in Washington Township on the afternoon of August 3rd. It burned 2,443 acres in Washington and Shamong Townships before it was contained. It was spotted in the air by a New Jersey Forestry Service helicopter at 250 p.m. EDT.
• Wildfire in Oregon, August 3 to 5, 20071 eventThe 621 Fire was human caused and burned 15,600 acres of mainly grass and shrubs 13 miles east of Moro.
• Wildfire in Oregon, August 3 to 20, 20071 eventThe Trout Meadows Fire, 9 miles northwest of Granite, was started by lightning. It burned 3,900 acres of primarily lodgepole pine and grass from August 3 to August 20.
• Wildfire in Washington, August 5 to 31, 20071 eventThe Domke Lake Fire, centered two miles south of Lucerne, was a lightning caused fire that burned around 12,000 acres. The fire burned into the month of September.
• Wildfire in Montana, August 8 to 18, 20073 eventsA complex of thunderstorms moved across Custer, Powder River and Rosebud Counties. As a result, many lightning caused fires were started during the evening of the 8th and the early morning hours of the 9th.
• Wildfire in Wyoming, August 9 to 26, 20071 eventLightning sparked the Columbine Wildfire over the eastern portion of Yellowstone National Park beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9. Smokejumpers and aerial bombardment could not keep the fire contained the next day and the fire grew to over 1,000 acres.
• Wildfire in Montana, August 9 to 31, 20071 eventTwo lightning caused wildfires began around Mill Creek, south of Livingston and Hicks Peak, with a second fire south of Big Timber near Wicked Creek.
• Wildfire in Wyoming, August 10 to 21, 20071 eventA lightning caused wildfire burned 4,827 acres 15 miles southwest of Sheridan. The fire burned from approximately August 10th to August 21st and consisted mostly of Lodgepole Pine.
• Wildfire in Idaho, August 10 to 24, 2007$5,000 · 1 eventTwo fires combined about 12 miles northeast of Preston and became known as the Cleveland fire. The Cleveland fire started on August 10th and was considered contained on August 24th. It burned 16,269 acres.
• Wildfire in California, August 10 to 16, 20071 eventDry conditions combined with hot temperatures and gusty winds generated several wildfires across south-central California during August. The Tar fire in Fresno County was started by humans on the 10th, and was contained on the 16th.
• Wildfire in Washington, August 11 to 16, 20071 eventThe Marshall Group Fire, centered four miles northeast of Cheney, was an equipment caused fire that burned 365 acres. One structure and one outbuilding was lost in the fire.
• Wildfire in Idaho, August 11 to 25, 20071 eventA timber, brush and grass fire began 10 miles north of Holbrook on August 11th. The fire burned 9,730 acres and caused no property damage. It was considered 100 percent contained on August 25th.
• Wildfire in Texas, August 11, 20071 eventA wildfire burned three hundred acres about four miles south of White Deer near County Road Y and County Road 13. The wildfire was possibly started by the catalytic converter of a vehicle. No damage or injuries were reported.
• Wildfire in Hawaii, August 12 to 19, 2007$1.0 million · 1 eventA blaze scorched about 7000 acres of dry brush in the North Shore area of Oahu, near Waialua. The fire raged from Sunday, August 12, through Sunday, August 19. It began at 1:40 P.M.
• Wildfire in Wyoming, August 13 to 31, 20071 eventThe Bone Creek Fire was started by lightning on Monday, August 13th and continued through September 15th. The fire was located 33 miles northeast of Greybull, Wyoming and burned approximately 13,450 acres. The fire fuels were mainly insect-killed spruce/fir and lodgepole pine.
• Debris Flow in Arizona, August 13, 20071 eventHeavy rain caused a rock slide on Highway 89 south of Prescott.
• Wildfire in Wyoming, August 13 to 31, 20071 eventLightning sparked the Bone Creek Wildfire during the afternoon of Monday, August 13. The fire began in steep and rugged terrain along and north of Shell Canyon with the main fuels being insect-killed spruce and fir, and lodgepole pine.
• Wildfire in Wyoming, August 14 to 26, 20071 eventThe Columbine Wildfire escaped the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park and spread into the Shoshone National Forest. For more information, see this month's entry for the Columbine Wildfire in Yellowstone National Park.
• Wildfire in Montana, August 14 to 16, 20071 eventA wildfire broke out in the Pinecrest Subdivision located between Park City and Columbus, Montana during the afternoon of August 14th. At the time of this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown. 60 homes in the subdivision were endangered resulting in evacuations.
• Wildfire in Oregon, August 15 to 23, 20071 eventThe Ukiah Complex started August 15th as twenty-nine fires burning on the Umatilla National Forest (UNF) and private lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).
• Wildfire in Oregon, August 15 to 28, 20071 eventThe Otter Creek Fire located 10 miles east of Dale, Oregon burned 3,032 acres. This fire was one of several fires resulting from a lightning storm that occurred the afternoon of August 15, near Ukiah.
• Wildfire in Washington, August 16 to 18, 20071 eventThe Wautoma Fire, 12 miles north of Benton City, started August 16 and burned 67,000 acres by August 18 when it was brought under control. It was burned dry grass and sage and was fanned by strong winds.
• Wildfire in Idaho, August 17 to 31, 20071 eventA significant timber, brush and grass fire began on August 16th 8 miles to the west of the city of Ketchum due to a lightning strike and had grown to 400 acres by August 18th. The fire exhibited extreme behavior and in a week had grown to over 40,000 acres.
• Wildfire in Washington, August 18 to 21, 20071 eventThe Whiskey Mountain Fire occurred between Oroville and Ellisforde, and burned 1,200 acres.
• Wildfire in Washington, August 18 to 31, 20071 eventThe Cottonwood Creek Fire, centered six miles ESE of Peoly, burned 3,578 acres.
• Wildfire in Montana, August 19 to 25, 20071 eventA lightning strike at approximately 415pm in the Briarwood Subdivision, located 1 mile southeast of Billings, resulted in a wildfire that lasted several days. The main threat occurred during the afternoon hours as a result of gusty winds from the initial thunderstorm.
• Wildfire in Texas, August 21, 20071 eventThe Potter County Fire Department reported a large wildfire about fifteen miles north northeast of Amarillo on the Alibates Ranch.
• Wildfire in California, August 21 to 27, 20071 eventThe Snow Fire burned 100 acres near Black Mountain between the 21st and the 27th of August. This fire was caused by a lightning strike on the 18th. The fire did not begin to spread until the 21st.
• Wildfire in California, August 22 to 26, 20071 eventDry conditions combined with hot temperatures and gusty winds generated several wildfires across south-central California during August. The Vista fire was ignited on the 22nd by unknown causes.
• Wildfire in Oklahoma, August 22 to 23, 20071 eventLightning started a five hundred acre wildfire roughly thirteen miles south southeast of Boise City or just east of the intersection of East to West Road 339 and North to South Road 300 in extreme southern Cimarron County just north of the Texas and Oklahoma state line.
• Wildfire in California, August 26 to 31, 20071 eventDry conditions combined with hot temperatures and gusty winds generated several wildfires across south-central California during August. The Grouse fire in the Sequoia National Forest was caused by lightning on the 27th.
• Wildfire in Texas, August 28, 20071 eventA large wildfire...which was caused by lightning...burned five hundred and five acres. The wildfire started about four miles east southeast of Texline between U.S. Highway 87 and Farm to Market Road 296 just north of Hester Road. No damage or injuries were reported.
• Wildfire in California, August 29 to 31, 20071 eventA lightning outbreak on August 29, 2007, produced over a dozen mostly small wildland fires in the Mendocino and Shasta-Trinity National Forests.
• Wildfire in Washington, August 30 to 31, 20071 eventThe South Omak Lake Fire, centered 11 miles southeast of Omak, was a human caused fire that burned 10,500 acres.
• Wildfire in Oregon, August 31, 20071 eventThe GW Fire, 13 miles west of Sisters, was started by lightning and burned 7,357 acres between August 31 and September 11. Residents of Black Butte Ranch were evacuated on September 3 and allowed to return September 4.
• Wildfire in Wyoming, September 1 to 15, 2007$100,000 · 1 eventThe Bone Creek Wildfire that began on Monday, August 13 continued until Saturday, September 15. The fire scorched approximately 13,670 acres of forest, almost all of which resided within the borders of Big Horn County.

Eventually this complex contained 3 separate fires in Custer and Lemhi Counties and was considered 100 percent contained by the end of September.
• Wildfire in Idaho, September 1 to 5, 20071 eventA significant timber, brush and grass fire began on August 16th 8 miles to the west of the city of Ketchum due to a lightning strike. The fire exhibited extreme behavior and in a week had grown to over 40,000 acres.

• Wildfire in California, September 1 to 4, 20071 eventThe Butler Fire was started by a lightning strike near Highway 18 between Snow Valley and Big Bear Lake Dam. The fire burned 85 acres of timber and chaparral in steep terrain. There were no reports of injury or property damage.
