...The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg SC has
issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in North Carolina...
French Broad River At Marshall affecting Madison County.
.Heavy rainfall is expected over the lower French Broad River basin
as Tropical Storm Fred lifts north into the southern Appalachians on
Tuesday, producing as much as 2-4" of new rainfall by midnight
Wednesday. This rainfall will cause significant rises within the
lower French Broad River and Ivy Creek watersheds and Minor flooding
of common areas from Woodfin to Marshall to Walnut is likely through
Wednesday. More significant, Moderate flooding of the lower French
Broad River is possible if heavier rainfall develops or the rainfall
occurs over a shorter period of time. Please stay weather aware and
monitor the latest forecast updates.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

the French Broad River At Marshall.
* From this evening to early Thursday afternoon.
* At 3:00 AM EDT Tuesday the stage was 4.0 feet and cresting.
Additional rises are expected beginning late Tuesday morning.
* Minor Flood Stage is 8.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above Minor Flood Stage
late this evening to a crest between 8.5 feet and 9.0 feet
tomorrow morning. It will then fall below Minor Flood Stage early
Thursday morning.
* Impact...At 8.0 feet, Minor Flood Stage. The French Broad River is
approaching some buildings on Blannahassett Island and approaching
residential yards along Island Road. Minor flooding along Rollins
Road is likely. The river is approaching the railroad tracks in
the Back Street area.
* Impact...At 9.0 feet, Minor flooding continues. The French Broad
River is close to the top of the railroad tracks and starting to
flood areas between Highway 70 and the normal riverbank.
Floodwaters may begin to reach buildings along Back Street and on
Blannahassett Island.

* At 5:31 PM EDT Tuesday the stage was 7.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage just
after midnight tonight to a crest of 9.9 feet early tomorrow
afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage Thursday morning.
* Impact...At 7.0 feet, The French Broad River is starting to flood
low-lying areas on Blannahassett Island. Low-lying areas along
Hayes Run Creek in the Rollins area are beginning to flood.
* Impact...At 8.0 feet, The French Broad River is approaching some
buildings on Blannahassett Island and approaching residential
yards along Island Road. Minor flooding along Rollins Road is
likely. The river is approaching the railroad tracks in the Back
Street area.
* Impact...At 9.0 feet, River is close to the top of the railroad
tracks and starting to flood areas between Highway 70 and the
normal riverbank. Floodwaters may begin to reach buildings along
Back Street and on Blannahassett Island.

* Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending
at 6:30 PM EDT Tuesday was 9.6 feet.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 12.0 feet
tomorrow morning. It will then fall below flood stage Thursday
morning.
* Impact...At 9.0 feet, The river is close to the top of the
railroad tracks and starting to flood areas between Highway 70 and
the normal riverbank. Floodwaters may begin to reach buildings
along Back Street and on Blannahassett Island.
* Impact...At 10.0 feet, Moderate Flood Stage. Flooding along
Rollins Road and Hayes Run Road is continuing and worsening. Parts
of the town of Marshall is flooded.
* Impact...At 11.3 feet, Most buildings in the town of Marshall are
inundated. Flooding at this level is similar to the flooding that
occurred on September 8, 2004.

...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in North
Carolina...
French Broad River At Marshall affecting Madison County.
.Storm-total rainfall accumulations of 3-5" over Madison County
resulted in flash flooding and significant rises along Ivy Creek and
the lower French Broad River from Marshall to Hot Springs. The
floodwave has peaked and the French Broad River is now receding, but
it remains above critical levels and nuisance to Minor flooding is
ongoing. These river levels are producing scattered to extensive
flooding of low-lying areas including low-water crossings,
campgrounds, parks, and boat-access areas.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

EDT on Tuesday.
* Forecast...The river is expected to fall below Minor Flood Stage
later this morning and below Action/Advisory Stage by this evening.
* Impact...At 9.0 feet, The river is close to the top of the
railroad tracks and starting to flood areas between Highway 70 and
