continues for
  The Big Creek near Cumming.
* Until Friday evening.
* At 845 PM Thursday the stage was 8.5 feet, and falling.
* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast to   
  continue.
* Flood stage is 6 feet.
* The river will continue to fall, dropping below flood stage by 
  Friday afternoon.
* At 8 feet, minor flooding continues well into the natural 
  flood plain of the creek upstream and downstream from the gage at 
  Atlanta Highway, or Georgia Highway 9. Most of the sidewalk and 
  boardwalk of the Big Creek Greenway will be under a foot or two of 
  water. The areas under the Georgia 400 Highway and McFarland Road 
  will be covered with around three feet of water. A portion of the 
  sidewalk under Majors Road will be covered with around four feet of 
  water.

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Big Creek near Alpharetta.
* Until Saturday evening.
* At 845 PM Thursday the stage was 9.8 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast to 
  continue.
* Flood stage is 7 feet.
* The river will continue rising, reaching near 10.4 feet by Friday 
  afternoon. The river is expected to fall below flood stage Saturday 
  afternoon.
* At 10 feet, minor flooding expands along the creek from near Cumming 
  to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale Drive and 
  Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia are under a foot of 
  water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences significant flooding up to 
  4 feet deep with closure of the paths. This especially occurs 
  upstream and downstream from the gage on Kimball Bridge Road and 
  Rock Mill Park. A large portion of the YMCA Campground off Preston 
  Ridge Road will be under a two feet of water.

* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is expected to

* At 16 feet, minor flooding occurs in the woodlands and affects   
  large portions of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area along 
  the river upstream and downstream from the gage on Cobb Parkway. The 
  flood waters will be around one foot deep over portions of the 
  access road to the recreation area.

  The Chattahoochee River near Vinings Paces Ferry Road.
* Until Friday afternoon.
* At 9 PM Thursday the stage was 15.2 feet, and nearly steady.
* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast to 
  continue.
* Flood stage is 14 feet.
* The river will remain nearly steady between 15.2 and 15.4 feet 
  through early Friday morning. The river is expected to fall below 
  flood stage later Friday morning.
* Between 14 and 16 feet, minor flooding continues in the woodlands 
  along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on Paces Ferry 
  Road. Most of an athletic field at Lovett School, the backyards of 
  homes on Cochise Drive, Paces Ferry Drive, Paces Manor and 
  Farmington Drive, as well as walking paths by a restaurant will be 
  under 3 feet of water.

* At 9 PM Thursday the stage was 23.6 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 24 feet.
* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage tonight, then 
  continue rising, reaching near 25.5 feet by Friday morning. The 
  river is expected to fall below flood stage Friday afternoon.
* At 24 feet, minor flooding occurs of the woodlands and fields in the 
  natural flood plain upstream and downstream from the gage on South 
  Cobb Drive. The water level reaches the railroad tracks in the 
  industrial area on both sides of the river near the bridge. 

  Between 24 and 26 feet, minor flooding occurs in the woodlands and 
  fields along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  South Cobb Drive. Flood waters one to two feet deep cover portions 
  of the railroad tracks in the industrial area on both sides of the 
  river. The water level approaches the foundations of a few 
  commercial buildings in the area.

* At 915 PM Thursday the stage was 15.5 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 17 feet.
* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by early Friday 
  morning, then continue rising reaching near 20.5 feet by Friday 
  evening. The river is expected to fall below flood stage by 
  Saturday afternoon.
* At 17 feet, minor flooding begins in the woodlands and fields along 
  the river upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 27, 
  or Georgia Highway 16. Flood waters reach the top of the boat ramp 
  at Riverside Park next to the bridge. The playground at a day use 
  area on the west side of the Chattahoochee Bend State Park will 
  begin to flood.

  between 19 and 21 feet, minor flooding continues in the woodlands 
  and fields upstream and downstream from the gage at U.S. Highway 
  27, or Georgia Highway 16. The parking lot of Riverside Park next to 
  the bridge will begin to flood. A sod farm upstream also experiences 
  flooding. Flooding occurs on some unimproved dirt roads along the 
  river. The playground at a day use area in the Chattahoochee Bend 
  State Park will be under two feet of water. Flood waters will 
  surround tent platforms on the North Camping Site of the park.

* At 915 PM Thursday the stage was 26.9 feet, and nearly steady.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 27 feet.
* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage after midnight 
  early Friday morning and continue rising, reaching to near 27.1 
  feet later Friday morning. The river is expected to fall below flood 
  stage Friday afternoon.
* At 27 feet, minor flooding occurs along the river upstream and 
  downstream from the gage on the 14th Street bridge. Portions of the 
  River Walk in Columbus begin to flood and will be closed to the 
  public. The water level continues to approach the foundation of the 
  Phenix City Amphitheater in Alabama.

  Suwanee Creek Park to George Pierce Park. The minor flooding will

  upstream and downstream from the gage near the Interstate 20 bridge. 
  Portions of a paintball playing field just downstream of the bridge 
  begin to flood. Athletic fields in the Woodrow Wilson Park on Mount 
  Vernon Road begin to flood due to water backing up in ditches. Water 
  also begins to floods yards of four elevated homes along Mount

  then continue rising, reaching near 28.4 feet by Saturday 
  morning. The river is expected to fall below flood stage Saturday 
  morning.
* At 20 feet, bankfull conditions are reached along the river from 
  Flat Shoals Road to the Georgia Highway 74 bridge.

  At 28 feet, minor flooding of the natural flood plain near the gage 
  location begins. Flooding continues to expand into the agricultural 
  and wooded areas downstream from the gage near the Georgia Highway 
  74 bridge. Elevated homes in this location will see a foot or two

* At 945 PM Thursday the stage was 18.4 feet and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring,and minor flooding is forecast to

* Flood stage is 18 feet.
* The river is forecast to continue rising, reaching near 24.7 feet by 
  Saturday morning. The river is expected to fall below flood stage 
  Monday morning.
* At 18 feet, minor flooding begins along the river in the woodlands 
  and low lying areas of fields upstream and downstream from the gage 
  on U.S. Highway 19. The water level will reach the top of a boat 
  ramp by the bridge on the Taylor County side of the river.

  At 24 feet, minor flooding expands further into the woodlands and 
  fields along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. 
  Highway 19. The flood waters will be up to 6 feet deep over the top 
  of the boat ramp and cover a portion of the access road by the

...18Z Aviation Discussion and Forecast Update...

.UPDATE...

A Tornado Watch continues for the southeastern half of the
forecast area, extending southeast of a line from Columbus to
Peachtree City, to Lawrenceville, to Danielsville, until 8 PM
tonight as a line of severe thunderstorms sweeps through the area.
For this area, be prepared for possible Severe Thunderstorm and
Tornado Warnings, and be ready to take appropriate actions if
necessary.

A Flash Flood Watch will also continue through 7 AM Friday
morning for the entire forecast area with several Flash Flood and
River Flood Warnings ongoing for North Georgia for the next
several hours with multiple reports of swift water rescues
throughout the morning. Flooded roadways are proving to be very
dangerous and there are widespread road closures across North
Georgia. We'd like to remind all that when encountering flooded
roadways to play it safe; Turn Around, Don't Drown!

SHORT TERM /Today through Friday/...

Current radar loop shows showers and thunderstorms moving NE across
the region this morning. Main upper trough moving east through the
plains states this morning keeping the southeastern US in deep moist
southwesterly flow. This flow is bringing ample Gulf moisture and
rounds of heavy rainfall with increased thunderstorm chances mainly
Today. The main surface frontal boundary will push into NW GA over
the next few hours and continue to move southeast through tonight.
Strong to severe convection potential continues Today given ample
shear and some higher instability expected especially across central
portions of the state. Main threat continues to be damaging winds,
though with some decent HREF probabilities of sig tor params greater
than 3, there is the potential for some brief tornado spin ups this
afternoon. QPF showing highest values expected mainly across west
and central GA today with 2 to 3 more inches expected on top of the 1
to 2 inches that has already fallen. Have continued the Flash Flood
watch which includes all of north and central GA.

Other item to watch is the strong Cold air advection pushing in
behind this system tonight/Fri morning along with a slug of enhanced
moisture across N GA. Temps will dip down into the lower 30s and
with fairly steep cooling/lapse rates and decent saturation below
700 mb have continued with a rain snow mix mainly across N GA. Some
light accumulations cannot be ruled out especially in the higher
elevations. Temps Friday will rise into the 40s and 50s.

LONG TERM /Friday Night through Thursday/...

The first portion of the long term will be the rare dry period but
as has been the case, this will not last for long. A secondary
shortwave will drop through the midwest and eventually the
Mississippi Valley Sat morning with surface reflection passing
well north of the area. GFS continues to be most aggressive with
this feature and the associated moisture although the ECMWF has
trended slightly wetter as well. Still going to use a blend which
yields likely pops over the far NE zones through Sat afternoon.
Timing will be critical as we could see enough cold air lock in to
allow for a rain and snow mix over mountains primarily. ECMWF
indicates greater snow potential over a larger area than the GFS
but will lean toward the lower amounts which agrees with WPC. This
would yield a dusting to maybe two tenths of an inch over the
northeast mountains.

Another brief dry period for Sunday before next system moves in
quickly Monday into Tuesday and if you believe the ECMWF which
stalls the frontal boundary further north. Regardless, another
period of decent rainfall of over and inch. Not as impressive as
the current system but with ongoing flooding likely, this will
only exacerbate the problem. Although instability will be quite
minimal, did add a period of thunder for Tuesday afternoon as the
activity transitions into Central GA.

Depending on which long term solution verifies, we could see a
break on Wednesday but just as likely that front hangs around and
provides the focus for additional activity. Frontal boundary will
move through on Thu with good agreement this far out. An
additional inch of rain is likely with this system and possibly
quite a bit more in the far extended as models show front stalling
and additional waves impacting the area.

A broken line of showers and thunderstorms will cont to push
through the fcst area with a wide variety of svr wx and heavy rain
following. CIGS are very spotty at the moment, but expecting MVFR
to dominate through most of the TAF period with IFR possible
around the ATL sites between 22-06Z tonight. A mix of IFR/MVFR
VSBYS also likely with periods of heavy rain. Strong gusty SSW
winds ahead of the storms will transition to breezy west winds
tonight before strengthening again tomorrow morning with gusts up
to 25kts.

...Tornado Watch In Effect For Portions of Central and Eastern
Georgia Southwest Portions of the Forecast Area extending
southeast of a line from Columbus to Peachtree City, to
Lawrenceville, to Danielsville, until 8 PM tonight...

A line of showers and thunderstorms capable of producing damaging
winds and isolated tornadoes will continue to sweep through
portions of central and eastern Georgia. For this area, be
prepared for possible Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings,
and be ready to take appropriate actions if necessary.

In addition to the severe storm potential, a Flash Flood Watch is
in effect for the entire forecast area through 7 AM Friday
morning as torrential rainfall will allow an additional 2 to 4
inches of rain. Heavy rain will quickly elevate the flood
potential across the area, especially in the higher terrain of
north Georgia, urban areas, low-lying areas, and small creeks and
streams. Please do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways;
Turn Around, Don't Drown!

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday...

The Flash Flood Watch will continue through Friday morning across
north and central Georgia. Flooding will continue well after the
rain ends in urban areas, low-lying areas, and small creeks and
streams.

Light rain and snow mix will be possible across far north Georgia
on Friday morning and Saturday morning, mainly in the higher
terrain. Little to no accumulations are anticipated at this time
for Friday but this could change with subsequent forecasts. A
dusting to less than a half an inch could be realized for the
Saturday system across the Northeast mountains.
