* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Towns County in northeastern Georgia...
  Northwestern Lumpkin County in north central Georgia...
  Gilmer County in north central Georgia...
  Union County in north central Georgia...
  Fannin County in north central Georgia...

* Until 145 PM EST.

* At 749 AM EST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have
  already fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
  shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, 
           highways, streets and underpasses as well as other 
           drainage and low lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
  Ellijay, Blue Ridge, Hiawassee, Blairsville, Young Harris, East
  Ellijay, Morganton, Suches, Blue Mountain Shelter, Jones Mill,
  Gumlog, Jones Creek, Titus, Cohutta Wilderness, Pisgah, Mineral
  Bluff, Cherry Log, Stover Creek Shelter, Plum Orchard Gap Shelter
  and Hemp.

Additional rainfall amounts of one to two are possible in the warned 
area.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 145 PM EST FOR
TOWNS...NORTHWESTERN LUMPKIN...GILMER...UNION AND FANNIN COUNTIES...

At 1144 AM EST, Emergency management reported that the heavy rain 
has ended and smaller creeks and streams are receding. 
Unfortunately, larger creeks and rivers are still rising and many 
roads remain closed. Up to three inches of rain has fallen but only 
an additional one-half inch of rain can be expected.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

SOURCE...Emergency management.

IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, 
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage 
         and low lying areas.

Additional rainfall amounts of one-half are possible in the warned 
area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.
