Coosawattee River near Ellijay affecting Gilmer County
.Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and
rivers which will cause flooding in some areas.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest
forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect
life and property.
The latest stage data was furnished in cooperation with the United
States Geological Survey.

The South Chickamauga Creek near Ringgold.
* From this morning until further notice.
* At 930 AM Thursday the stage was 15.0 feet...and rising.
* Flood stage is 15 feet.
* At 15 feet... Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding begins
in the woodlands and fields along the creek upstream and
downstream from the gage on the U.S. Highway 41 or Nashville
Street bridge. The flood water will expand to inundate the
entire area under the bridge. Minor flooding of the natural
floodplain will also occur upstream of the gage between
Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41 or Nashville Street.

The Flood Warning continues for
The Lookout Creek near New England.
* Until late Friday night.
* At 10 PM Thursday the stage was 20.4 feet, and nearly steady.
* Major flooding is occurring, and major flooding is forecast to
continue.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* The river will begin to fall, dropping below flood stage by
Friday evening.
* At 20 feet, major flooding continues. Several homes begin to flood
near Sells Lane and Lookout Creek Road and many buildings near Creek
Road and the New England hang gliding park. In addition, flooding of
the bridge and road along Nickajack Road near Lookout Creek occurs.
Some residence will likely need to evacuate. Also major flooding
will occur downstream as the creek crosses the Tennessee border into
the Tiftona area. Several roads near the creek will be flooded and
closed with a few feet of water.

* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is expected to
continue.
* Flood stage is 15 feet.
* Between 21 and 23 feet, widespread minor flooding continues upstream
and downstream from the gage on the U.S. Highway 41 or Nashville
Street bridge. The flood waters will further inundate natural
floodplain, including low lying portions of residential yards
downstream of the gage, and upstream from the gage along the creek
between Interstate 75 and U.S. Highway 41 or Nashville Street.

* Until Saturday morning.
* At 5 AM Friday the stage was 20.5 feet...and steady.
* Major flooding is occurring and is forecast.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* The river will continue to be steady then fall below flood stage after
midnight tomorrow.
* At 21 feet...Record flooding begins. State Route 136 will be
closed as water approaches top of bridge. Many homes are flooded
out between Trenton and New England. Evacuations will likely be
needed. Also major flooding will continue downstream as the creek
crosses the Tennessee border into the Tiftona area. Several roads
near the creek will be flooded and closed with several feet of
water.
