Issued at 232 PM CDT Mon Jun 12 2023 Seasonably cool conditions are on tap for the next two or three days. Rain returns to the Midsouth tonight with several periods of rain and thunderstorms through the remainder of the work week. Temperatures will trend a few degrees warmer, reaching 90 degrees across much of the area by Friday. The weekend looks warmer, featuring highs in the upper 80s to low 90s with isolated to scattered afternoon thunderstorms. 30/Sirmon && .DISCUSSION...(This evening through next Sunday) Issued at 232 PM CDT Mon Jun 12 2023 We will remain in a non-typical pattern for June this week. Climatologically the mean storm track across the Nation shifts across the Central Plains and Midwest this time of year, but for the last couple of days it has been over the Midsouth and even along the Gulf Coast. That looks like it will continue through at least Friday as a series of midlevel disturbances tracks through zonal flow. There may be a few strong to severe storms late tonight into tomorrow, but otherwise the risk of any organized severe thunderstorms appears low. The Storm Prediction Center has included nearly all of north Mississippi in a Marginal to Slight risk for severe thunderstorms in their Day 2 convective outlook. The primary threat should be damaging wind with a secondary threat of large hail. Flooding rain may also become a concern by the end of the work week across north Mississippi which should remain in the crosshairs of the episodic storms. Rainfall totals up to 4 inches are possible in northeast Mississippi. A ridge will begin to build west of the Mississippi River on Friday and slowly shift across the Midsouth into the weekend. As a result, expect more typical summertime temperatures and primarily diurnally driven thunderstorms. Expect high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s.
