  The Etowah River near Barrettsville.
* From this afternoon until further notice.
* At 4 PM Thursday the stage was 19.4 feet, and rising.
* Flood stage is 19 feet.
* At 19 feet, minor flooding begins in the woodlands and fields along 
  the river upstream and downstream from the gage on Kelly Bridge Road 
  in southwest Dawson county. The water will reach the top of a 
  private boat ramp near the bridge next to an outfitters parking 
  area. Minor flooding continues on Nicholson Road in northwest 
  Forsyth county. The water will be around one foot deep on portions 
  of the road.

* At 330 PM Thursday the stage was 12.1 feet, and rising.
* Flood stage is 12 feet.
* At 12 feet, minor flooding of residential yards occurs along the 
  creek upstream and downstream from the gage on West Wesley Road. 
  This includes Nancy Creek Road and Ridge Valley Court. Portions of 
  The Westminster Schools athletic fields upstream from the gage will

  The Sweetwater Creek near Austell.
* From this evening until Friday morning.
* At 4 PM Thursday the stage was 9 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 10 feet.
* The creek is forecast to rise above flood stage tonight then 
  continue rising, reaching near 10.1 feet early Friday morning. The 
  creek is expected to fall below flood stage later Friday morning.
* AT 8 feet, bankfull conditions occur upstream and downstream from 
  the gage near the Interstate 20 bridge. Water begins to flow into 
  low areas of the flood plain.

  At 10 feet, minor flooding occurs in the woodlands and fields 
  upstream and downstream from the gage near the Interstate 20 bridge. 
  Portions of a paintball playing field just downstream of the bridge 
  begin to flood. Athletic fields in the Woodrow Wilson Park on Mount 
  Vernon Road begin to flood due to water backing up in ditches. Water 
  also begins to floods yards of four elevated homes along Mount 
  Vernon Road.

* At 345 PM Thursday the stage was 14.9 fee, and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 16 feet.
* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage this evening then 
  continue rising, reaching near 17.9 feet after midnight Friday 
  morning. The river is expected to fall below flood stage by Friday 
  morning.
* AT 15 feet, bankfull conditions are reached along the river upstream 
  and downstream from the gage at Georgia Highway 82.
  
  At 16 feet, minor flooding begins in the woodlands, fields and 
  pastures upstream and downstream from the gage at Georgia Highway 
  82. A few dirt access roads will be flooded and a residential yard 
  just downstream will begin to flood.

  At 18 feet, minor flooding continues in the woodlands, fields and 
  pasture upstream and downstream from the gage at Georgia Highway 82. 
  A few dirt access roads and a residential yard just downstream will 
  be flooded with up to two feet of water.

  The Broad River near Carlton.
* From this afternoon until late Friday night.
* At 345 PM Thursday the stage was 16.3 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast to 
  continue.
* Flood stage is 15 feet.
* The river will continue rising, reaching near 19.4 feet early 
  Friday morning. The river is expected to fall below flood stage 
  Friday evening.
* At 15 feet, minor flooding of woodlands and fields begin upstream 
  and downstream from the gage on the Georgia Highway 72 bridge. A 
  sand dredge operation on the left bank near the gage will become 
  affected. A portion of Roy Wood Road will be flooded with a few feet 
  of water and the dirt parking lot of the Broad River Outpost for 
  Canoes and Kayaks will begin to flood. A wooden pier and portions of 
  the yard behind an assisted living home off of Roy Wood Road will be 
  flooded.
    
  At 18 feet, minor flooding expands further into the woodlands and 
  fields along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on the 
  Georgia Highway 72 bridge. A sand dredge operation on the left bank 
  near the gage will become flooded. A large portion of Roy Wood Road 
  will be flooded with several feet of water and the Broad River 
  Outpost for Canoes and Kayaks location will be under water. Flooding 
  of the yard behind an assisted living home off of Roy Wood Road will

  The Oconee River near Penfield.
* From this evening until Sunday afternoon.
* At 4 PM Thursday the stage was 11.4 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 13 feet.
* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage tonight and then 
  continue rising, reaching near 16.7 feet by Saturday afternoon. The 
  river is expected to fall below flood stage Sunday morning.
* At 11 feet, bankfull conditions occur upstream and downstream from 
  the gage on the Georgia Highway 15 bridge. Some low lying areas on 
  the right bank just begin to overflow.
  
  At 13 feet, minor flooding occurs along the river upstream and 
  downstream from the gage on the Georgia Highway 15 bridge. The right 
  bank begins to overflow into agricultural land and pastures with a 
  foot or two of water.

  At 17 feet, minor flooding continues to expand into fields, 
  woodlands and pastures near the river. The water level is very close 
  to Ward Road on the right bank. Flood waters will be approaching 
  irrigation systems and they may need to be moved to higher ground.

* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by Friday afternoon 
  then continue rising, reaching near 19.9 feet by Sunday evening.
* At 14 feet, bankfull conditions are reached along the river. The Old 
  Balls Ferry Road boat ramp, just upstream and right bank from the 
  Georgia Highway 57 bridge, will begin to flood.
  
  At 17 feet, flood stage is reached. The water level reaches the top 
  of the Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp, just upstream and rightbank 
  from the Georgia Highway 57 bridge. Minor flooding of woodlands near 
  the river occurs.

  At 19 feet, the water level begins to flood the dirt parking lot
  area near the Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp...just upstream and 
  rightbank from the Georgia Highway 57 bridge. Minor flooding 
  continues and spreads further into the woodlands near the river.

* At 845 PM Thursday the stage was 8.5 feet, and falling.

* At 8 feet, minor flooding continues well into the natural

  Atlanta Highway, or Georgia Highway 9. Most of the sidewalk and 
  boardwalk of the Big Creek Greenway will be under a foot or two of 
  water. The areas under the Georgia 400 Highway and McFarland Road

The Flood Warning continues for
  The Big Creek near Alpharetta.
* Until Saturday evening.
* At 845 PM Thursday the stage was 9.8 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast to 
  continue.
* Flood stage is 7 feet.
* The river will continue rising, reaching near 10.4 feet by Friday 
  afternoon. The river is expected to fall below flood stage Saturday 
  afternoon.
* At 10 feet, minor flooding expands along the creek from near Cumming 
  to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale Drive and 
  Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia are under a foot of 
  water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences significant flooding up to 
  4 feet deep with closure of the paths. This especially occurs 
  upstream and downstream from the gage on Kimball Bridge Road and 
  Rock Mill Park. A large portion of the YMCA Campground off Preston 
  Ridge Road will be under a two feet of water.

* Until Friday afternoon.
* At 9 PM Thursday the stage was 15.2 feet, and nearly steady.
* Minor flooding is occurring, and minor flooding is forecast to 
  continue.
* Flood stage is 14 feet.
* The river will remain nearly steady between 15.2 and 15.4 feet 
  through early Friday morning. The river is expected to fall below 
  flood stage later Friday morning.
* Between 14 and 16 feet, minor flooding continues in the woodlands 
  along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on Paces Ferry 
  Road. Most of an athletic field at Lovett School, the backyards of 
  homes on Cochise Drive, Paces Ferry Drive, Paces Manor and 
  Farmington Drive, as well as walking paths by a restaurant will be 
  under 3 feet of water.

* At 9 PM Thursday the stage was 23.6 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 24 feet.
* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage tonight, then 
  continue rising, reaching near 25.5 feet by Friday morning. The 
  river is expected to fall below flood stage Friday afternoon.
* At 24 feet, minor flooding occurs of the woodlands and fields in the 
  natural flood plain upstream and downstream from the gage on South 
  Cobb Drive. The water level reaches the railroad tracks in the 
  industrial area on both sides of the river near the bridge. 

  Between 24 and 26 feet, minor flooding occurs in the woodlands and 
  fields along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  South Cobb Drive. Flood waters one to two feet deep cover portions 
  of the railroad tracks in the industrial area on both sides of the 
  river. The water level approaches the foundations of a few 
  commercial buildings in the area.

* At 915 PM Thursday the stage was 15.5 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 17 feet.
* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage by early Friday 
  morning, then continue rising reaching near 20.5 feet by Friday 
  evening. The river is expected to fall below flood stage by 
  Saturday afternoon.
* At 17 feet, minor flooding begins in the woodlands and fields along 
  the river upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 27, 
  or Georgia Highway 16. Flood waters reach the top of the boat ramp 
  at Riverside Park next to the bridge. The playground at a day use 
  area on the west side of the Chattahoochee Bend State Park will 
  begin to flood.

  between 19 and 21 feet, minor flooding continues in the woodlands 
  and fields upstream and downstream from the gage at U.S. Highway 
  27, or Georgia Highway 16. The parking lot of Riverside Park next to 
  the bridge will begin to flood. A sod farm upstream also experiences 
  flooding. Flooding occurs on some unimproved dirt roads along the 
  river. The playground at a day use area in the Chattahoochee Bend 
  State Park will be under two feet of water. Flood waters will 
  surround tent platforms on the North Camping Site of the park.

  downstream from the gage on the 14th Street bridge. Portions of the 
  River Walk in Columbus begin to flood and will be closed to the 
  public. The water level continues to approach the foundation of the

* At 11 feet, minor flooding occurs in the woodlands and the natural 
  flood plain upstream and downstream from the gage at Powder Springs 
  Road. A walkway parallel to the creek on the right bank will be 
  under two feet of water.

  At 13 feet, minor flooding continues in the woodlands and the 
  natural flood plain upstream and downstream from the gage at Powder 
  Springs Road. A walkway parallel to the creek on the right bank will 
  be under 4 feet of water.

* The creek is forecast to rise above flood stage by early Friday 
  morning, then continue to rising, reaching near 10.8 feet later 
  Friday morning. The river is expected to fall below flood stage by 
  Friday afternoon.
* At 10 feet, minor flooding occurs in the woodlands and fields 
  upstream and downstream from the gage near the Interstate 20 bridge. 
  Portions of a paintball playing field just downstream of the bridge 
  begin to flood. Athletic fields in the Woodrow Wilson Park on Mount 
  Vernon Road begin to flood due to water backing up in ditches. Water 
  also begins to floods yards of four elevated homes along Mount

* At 20 feet, bankfull conditions are reached along the river from 
  Flat Shoals Road to the Georgia Highway 74 bridge.

  At 28 feet, minor flooding of the natural flood plain near the gage 
  location begins. Flooding continues to expand into the agricultural 
  and wooded areas downstream from the gage near the Georgia Highway 
  74 bridge. Elevated homes in this location will see a foot or two

* The river is forecast to continue rising, reaching near 24.7 feet by 
  Saturday morning. The river is expected to fall below flood stage 
  Monday morning.
* At 18 feet, minor flooding begins along the river in the woodlands 
  and low lying areas of fields upstream and downstream from the gage 
  on U.S. Highway 19. The water level will reach the top of a boat 
  ramp by the bridge on the Taylor County side of the river.

  At 24 feet, minor flooding expands further into the woodlands and 
  fields along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. 
  Highway 19. The flood waters will be up to 6 feet deep over the top 
  of the boat ramp and cover a portion of the access road by the

  under a foot of water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences 
  significant flooding up to 4 feet deep with closure of the paths. 
  This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on

  Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a two feet of 
  water.

.SHORT TERM /Tonight through Friday Night/...

The line of showers and thunderstorms that have brought a round of
severe weather and torrential flooding rainfall. The severe threat
looks to exit the forecast area by 8 PM tonight with the
expiration of the ongoing Tornado Watch. However, ongoing flooding
issues may continue with heavy runoff and another half inch of
rain expected behind the main line of storms. A Flash Flood Watch
will continue through Friday morning with several reports of
severe flooding ongoing in north Georgia.

As heavy rain filters out and isolated light showers move into
the area behind them the colder air moving in behind the front
will lead to possible snow showers and flurries across north
Georgia Friday morning. Accumulations around an inch may be
possible on western slopes in the Georgia Blue Ridge mountains.
Further flurries may continue on Saturday morning as well with
another brief round of lighter rainfall.

.LONG TERM /Saturday through Thursday/...

Given ongoing severe weather today only tweeks were made to the
extended forecast. The previous discussion follows...

PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 416 AM EST Thu Feb 6 2020/

The first portion of the long term will be the rare dry period but
as has been the case, this will not last for long. A secondary
shortwave will drop through the midwest and eventually the
Mississippi Valley Sat morning with surface reflection passing
well north of the area. GFS continues to be most aggressive with
this feature and the associated moisture although the ECMWF has
trended slightly wetter as well. Still going to use a blend which
yields likely pops over the far NE zones through Sat afternoon.
Timing will be critical as we could see enough cold air lock in to
allow for a rain and snow mix over mountains primarily. ECMWF
indicates greater snow potential over a larger area than the GFS
but will lean toward the lower amounts which agrees with WPC. This
would yield a dusting to maybe two tenths of an inch over the
northeast mountains.

Another brief dry period for Sunday before next system moves in
quickly Monday into Tuesday and if you believe the ECMWF which
stalls the frontal boundary further north. Regardless, another
period of decent rainfall of over and inch. Not as impressive as
the current system but with ongoing flooding likely, this will
only exacerbate the problem. Although instability will be quite
minimal, did add a period of thunder for Tuesday afternoon as the
activity transitions into Central GA.

Depending on which long term solution verifies, we could see a
break on Wednesday but just as likely that front hangs around and
provides the focus for additional activity. Frontal boundary will
move through on Thu with good agreement this far out. An
additional inch of rain is likely with this system and possibly
quite a bit more in the far extended as models show front stalling
and additional waves impacting the area.

A broken line of showers and thunderstorms will cont to push
through the fcst area with a wide variety of svr wx and heavy rain
following. CIGS are very spotty at the moment, but expecting MVFR
to dominate through most of the TAF period with IFR possible
around the ATL sites between 22-06Z tonight. A mix of IFR/MVFR
VSBYS also likely with periods of heavy rain. Strong gusty SSW
winds ahead of the storms will transition to breezy west winds
tonight before strengthening again tomorrow morning with gusts up
to 25kts.

Georgia Southwest Portions of the Forecast Area extending
southeast of a line from Columbus to Peachtree City, to
Lawrenceville, to Danielsville, until 8 PM tonight...

A line of showers and thunderstorms capable of producing damaging
winds and isolated tornadoes will continue to sweep through
portions of central and eastern Georgia. For this area, be
prepared for possible Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warnings,
and be ready to take appropriate actions if necessary.

In addition to the severe storm potential, a Flash Flood Watch is
in effect for the entire forecast area through 7 AM Friday
morning as torrential rainfall will allow an additional 2 to 4
inches of rain. Heavy rain will quickly elevate the flood
potential across the area, especially in the higher terrain of
north Georgia, urban areas, low-lying areas, and small creeks and
streams. Please do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways;
Turn Around, Don't Drown!

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday...

The Flash Flood Watch will continue through Friday morning across
north and central Georgia. Flooding will continue well after the
rain ends in urban areas, low-lying areas, and small creeks and
streams.

Light rain and snow mix will be possible across far north Georgia
on Friday morning and Saturday morning, mainly in the higher
terrain. Little to no accumulations are anticipated at this time
for Friday but this could change with subsequent forecasts. A
dusting to less than a half an inch could be realized for the
Saturday system across the Northeast mountains.

...SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS...

As much colder air rushes in across the area behind a strong
storm system, scattered rain showers may mix with or change to
snow showers before ending late tonight through early Friday
morning.

There is the chance to see some snow accumulations but mainly
confined to the highest elevations of the north Georgia mountains,
from near Amicalola Falls State Park up to the Georgia and North
Carolina state line near Hiawassee. In these areas, a dusting to
1/2 inch of snow is possible, with locally higher amounts around 1
inch over the highest ridgetops.

Elsewhere across far north Georgia, a few snow flurries or snow
