   Moderate damage. Roofs badly stripped, mobile homes overturned or badly damaged, exterior doors lost, windows broken.

   Considerable damage. Roofs torn off well-built houses, frame homes shifted on their foundations, mobile homes destroyed, large trees snapped or uprooted, cars lifted off the ground.

   Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

5. EF4166 to 200 mph

   Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

6. EF5over 200 mph

   Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

7. Unrated

   The survey recorded a tornado but could not put a number on it, most often because it crossed open country and damaged nothing a rating can be read from.

A strong short wave and associated surface low swept through the southern and eastern U.S. and combined with moderate instability and strong shear resulted in widespread severe weather, including numerous tornadoes, across north and central Georgia from late morning through the afternoon.

A National Weather Service survey team found that an EF0 tornado with maximum wind speeds of 85 MPH and a maximum path width of 250 yards touched down in southern Henry County, just south of the Locust Grove community near the intersection of LG Griffin Road and Hartwell Road. The tornado traveled east for less than 2 miles, mainly snapping or uprooting trees. In a neighborhood off Jayley|Parkway, numerous shingles were pulled off of the roof of one residence. Just south of this location, a large tree fell on the corner of a home resulting in significant roof and exterior wall damage. The tornado lifted along Grove Pointe Circle just east of Locust Road. This tornado was associated with the same thunderstorm that produced an EF0 |tornado in Griffin about 20 minutes earlier. No injuries were reported. 20 minutes of warning. NWS FFC issued a tornado warning for this county at 16:32 UTC, 20 minutes before the tornado touched down, in force until 17:00 UTC.

The county was under a severe thunderstorm watch, issued at 14:50 UTC and running to 18:29 UTC.
