Winter Storm in Maine, February 5, 1997
A low pressure system moving through the upper Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes and a developing low off the New England coast caused a mixture of winter precipitation throughout the state. Snowfall amounts ranged from about 6 to 8 inches across most of northern and western Maine to as much as 12 inches in interior sections of southwestern Maine.

A low pressure system moving through the upper Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes and a developing low off the New England coast caused a mixture of winter precipitation throughout the state. Snowfall amounts ranged from about 6 to 8 inches across most of northern and western Maine to as much as 12 inches in interior sections of southwestern Maine. Along coastal areas and in southeastern Maine, the snow changed to freezing rain causing numerous accidents.
