The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 18
continues.
SUMMARY...An isolated hail/wind threat may persist across a small
part of northwest Texas, but the overall severe threat should
continue to diminish early this morning.
DISCUSSION...Recent radar imagery shows a small cluster of
thunderstorms near Childress TX at 07Z. Low-level
south-southwesterly winds noted on thr KLBB/KFDR VWPs and related
low-level warm advection are likely the main drivers supporting this
ongoing convection. A weakly unstable airmass exists downstream into
parts of western north TX and far southwestern OK, although some
convective inhibition is also present. Regardless, 40-50 kt of
deep-layer shear should continue to support storm organization in
the short term, with marginally severe hail and a strong wind gust
possible. Current expectations are for this isolated severe threat
to gradually diminish this morning. New watch issuance is not
expected, and current Severe Thunderstorm Watch 18 will likely be
allowed to expire as scheduled at 08Z.
