Thursday evening to a crest of 20.5 feet by Friday morning. It

* At 1:00 PM CDT Thursday the stage was 13.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late
Thursday evening to a crest of 17.0 feet by early Friday
afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage early Saturday
afternoon.
* Impact...At 15.0 feet, There will be minor flooding of agricutural
land along the river. A 15 foot stage at the bridge is equivalent
to 23 foot flood stage at Lock One Tailwater staff gage.
* Impact...At 17.0 feet, A portion of State Highway 14 near Oil
Trough may flood. Agricultural land along right bank floods. A
crest of 17 feet at the bridge is equivalent to 28 foot crest at

the White River At Newport.
* From late tonight to Tuesday evening.
* At 7:00 PM CDT Friday the stage was 24.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 26.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late
tonight, April 30, to a crest of 28.5 feet early Sunday morning,
May 2. It will then fall below flood stage early Monday afternoon,
May 3.
* Impact...At 21.0 feet, Corps regulation stage during the winter
months for Bull Shoals and Norfork Reservoir releases.
* Impact...At 26.0 feet, Many thousands of acres of cropland are
inundated. Water is near State Highway 14. Many private levees are
overtopped allowing the river to flood cropland. Water in portions
of Jacksonport State Park that are on river side of levee.
* Impact...At 28.0 feet, Bateman Levee may be threatened with
overtopping. State Highway 14 east of Newport at Village Creek
could be flooded by backwater. State Highway 14 west of Newport is
flooded. State Highway 69 in Independence County may be flooded.
Flooding up Village Creek extends to eastern portions of Newport.
Extensive flooding of cropland in Jackson and Independence County
along the White and the lower Black River. River crested slightly
above 28 feet in December 2001 and March 2002.

* Flood stage is 24.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage early
Tuesday afternoon, May 4, and continue rising to a crest of 25.5
feet Friday evening, May 7.
* Impact...At 21.0 feet, Minor flooding of farmlands within the
levees.
* Impact...At 24.0 feet, Many acres of farmland flooded within the
levees. Water is backing up Bayou Des Arc and Cypress Bayou.

An overall slow decreasing trend is expected this afternoon with regards to intensity and coverage of convection. Near term forecasts have been adjusted to account for the expected convective trends. 55 && .AVIATION... Surface flow will become northwesterly at 4-7kt between 30/00z and 30/06z. MVFR ceilings are expected to prevail across northern sites through 30/00z. 55 && .PREV DISCUSSION...(ISSUED 642 AM CDT Thu Apr 29 2021) AVIATION... The slow moving cold front has entered northwest Arkansas and will continue to move through the state today. Rain chances will be highest in central and south sections. Heavy rain can be expected at times. Low clouds and decreased visibility will lead to MVFR or IFR conditions at times. Rain will end in most locations this evening but not til 06Z in the southeast. PREV DISCUSSION...(ISSUED 404 AM CDT Thu Apr 29 2021) SHORT TERM...Today Through Friday Night This upper ridge will be suppressed to the southeast by an approaching upper moving through the Midwest. The southwest upper low will become cutoff from the main flow and blocked by the upper ridge in the Gulf of Mexico, keeping it over west Texas through Friday. A slow moving cold front will continue to bring showers and thunderstorms across the area today. The main threat now is heavy rain. North, west and southwest sections will have the highest threat of flash flooding. Another large area of rain will move across central and south Arkansas during the day. A Flash Flood Watch continues for parts of the area. Another inch of rain is expected in the southwest. There is a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms across the southeast half of the area today along and ahead of the front. High pressure will build over the state tonight and Friday. Rain chances will end in the south Friday morning. Surface high pressure will be northeast of Arkansas by late Friday. Highs today will be in the mid 70s to lower 80s and in the mid to upper 70s Friday. Lows tonight will be in the lower 50s to lower 60s and then lower to mid 50s Friday night. LONG TERM...Saturday Through Wednesday Rain chances will return to the forecast gradually from Saturday into Sunday as an H500 closed low approaches the state from the southwest. As it moves over the area it will transition into an open wave. There will be little reprieve in the form of dry weather as yet another shortwave trough is expected to traverse the SW flow aloft and move toward the state by early next week. Another period of rain and thunderstorms is expected. Temperatures through the period are largely expected to remain above normal values with persistent srly flow.
