A low pressure system strengthened over eastern Colorado during the morning hours of January 30th. This brought snow showers to the eastern plains and southern part of the Denver area. A band of moderate to heavy snow brought localized snowfall amounts of up to 8 inches, which created difficult travel on I-70 east of Denver.

Here are a few snowfall reports, 3.5 inches Genoa, 3.5 inches Hugo, and 3.2 inches Limon. Eastbound Interstate 70 was closed between US 40 and US 24, about three miles west of Limon, for a crash, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Cameras in the area at 8 am showed at least two semitrailers that appeared to have slid off the slick, snow-covered highway.

No reports from the zone were relayed. However, based on radar and a 6 inch reports southwest of Deer Trail, one can reasonably assume at least 6 inches fell across eastern parts of the zone. I-70 was closed east of Denver between Exit 295 and Exit 292 for Airpark Road west of Watkins, according to CDOT.

Reports widely varied due to banded snowfall across the area with less than an inch across western parts of the zone and up to 8 inches across the east. Slow travel was noted on I-25 during the morning hours. Here are a few of the heavier snowfall reports, 8 inches 3 south of Kiowa, 7 inches near Agate, 6 inches 7 miles southwest of Deer Trail, and 4 inches near Elizabeth.
