.DISCUSSION...
A trough of low pressure will move eastward through the Great
Basin this afternoon. Strong westerly wind gusts will develop in
the Kern County mountains and desert and over the higher terrain
of Southeastern Tulare County this afternoon. These strong
westerly wind gusts will persist through tonight. The most intense
wind gusts are likely late this afternoon and this evening. There
is a 53 to 56 percent probability of wind gusts of 50 mph or
higher in Mojave from 7 PM PDT until 9 PM PDT this evening.

A ridge of high pressure will rapidly progress eastward across the
Western United States Monday and Monday night. High temperatures
Monday afternoon will be two to four degrees warmer than this
afternoon. A trough of low pressure will move eastward over
Northern California Tuesday. Light precipitation is conceivable
from Fresno County northward Tuesday. One to three inches of snow
is possible in the Mariposa portion of the Sierra Nevada above
7,000 feet Tuesday. Snow amounts will be an inch or less in the
Madera and Fresno County portions of the Sierra Nevada above
7,000 feet Tuesday. Rain amounts will be as high as one tenth of
an inch to one quarter of an inch in the Mariposa County portion
of the Sierra Nevada foothills Tuesday. The Merced and Madera
County portions of the San Joaquin Valley could receive less than
one tenth of an inch or rain. The Fresno County portion of the
San Joaquin Valley should remain dry. A few light showers are not
out of the question due to upslope flow in the Kern County
mountains Tuesday night.

Zonal flow aloft is expected Wednesday and Wednesday night. A
ridge of high pressure will move eastward across California
Thursday, before progressing through the Great Basin Friday. A
warming trend is anticipated Thursday and Friday. By Friday
afternoon, high temperatures will be seven to nine degrees above
normal for this time of year. A storm system may move to the
south-southeast down the southern half of the Golden State late
next next weekend, resulting in the possibility of wet weather
throughout Central California Saturday afternoon through Sunday.
Stay tuned for details as this situation further develops.
