Mesoscale Discussion 0954
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0331 PM CDT Sun Jun 13 2021
Areas affected...far southern Ohio...northeast Kentucky...central
into southern West Virginia
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 264...
Valid 132031Z - 132200Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 264
continues.
SUMMARY...The severe threat continues across Severe Thunderstorm
Watch 264, with a locally higher severe threat potentially occurring
just southwest of the Watch. An additional WW issuance may be needed
to address this threat.
DISCUSSION...Mature multicellular clusters and transient supercells
have been in progress across portions of the Ohio Valley, with an
increase in storm coverage and intensity noted in northeast KY.
These storms are expected to glance portions of far eastern KY and
progress to central/southern WV, just outside of the Severe
Thunderstorm Watch 0264, and could persist outside the watch bounds
for multiple hours. Given 2500+ J/kg MLCAPE present, these storms
may pose a locally higher threat of damaging gusts and perhaps an
occasionally severe hailstone. As such, a new Severe Thunderstorm
Watch may be needed to the south-southwest of Severe Thunderstorm
Watch 0264.
