...A BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL AFFECT CENTRAL ERIE COUNTY AND
THE BUFFALO METRO AREA THIS MORNING...

At 800 AM EST, a plume of lake effect snow producing snow fall rates
of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be across the Buffalo metro area,
impacting the city, as well as the north and south towns this
morning. Roadways will be snow covered, with untreated roads being
very difficult if not impossible to travel upon. Winds will gust to
25 mph this morning with some blowing and drifting snow and wind
chill values will be 10 to 20 below this morning. The lake effect
snow band will shift slightly southward late this morning.

Late this morning, a plume of lake effect snow producing snowfall
rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be across the city of Buffalo
and areas just south, including Hamburg, West Seneca, and East
Aurora. The band will also expand further away from the lake, into
western portions of Wyoming and Genesee counties. In addition to the
snow, winds will increase late this morning and early afternoon,
with gusts to 35 mph resulting in areas of blowing snow. The band is
expected to remain nearly stationary through early afternoon.
Roadways will be snow covered, with untreated roads being very
difficult if not impossible to travel upon.

This includes Interstate 90 between exits 59 and 52, and near exit
48A.

...A BAND OF LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL AFFECT NORTHERN JEFFERSON
COUNTY...

At 1100 AM EST a band of lake effect snow was located north of a
Watertown to Fort Drum line. This band will intensify and shift
southward through early afternoon. Snowfall rates will increase to 1-
2 inches per hour through 100 PM. Steadiest snows will shift to the
Watertown area, resulting in poor visibility and difficult travel
conditions.

This includes Interstate 81 between exits 42 and 52.

...HEAVY SNOW LAKE EFFECT SNOW WITH GUSTY WINDS AND NEAR WHITEOUT
CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON...

Heavy lake effect snow will continue this afternoon, with snowfall
rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The heaviest snows will be south of
a Buffalo to Batavia line, extending well into Wyoming and Genesee
counties, and southward including the far south towns.

The combination of heavy snow and winds gusting to 40 mph will
result in near whiteout conditions in lake effect snow. Travel in
lake effect snow will be difficult to impossible this afternoon.
Avoid all unnecessary travel.

This includes Interstate 90 between exits 58 and 50A, and exit 49 and
near exit 48.
