MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0984
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0410 AM CDT SUN JUN 19 2016

AREAS AFFECTED...NORTHEAST ND...NORTHWEST MN

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 272...

VALID 190910Z - 191045Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 272
CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...SMALL BUT INTENSE STORM CLUSTER SHOULD RAPIDLY TRACK EAST
ACROSS NORTHEAST ND INTO NORTHWEST MN THROUGH SUNRISE. THIS CLUSTER
WILL PROBABLY WEAKEN LATER THIS MORNING...BUT THE RISK FOR SEVERE
HAIL/WIND SHOULD EXTEND INTO AT LEAST A COUPLE TIERS OF COUNTIES IN
NORTHWEST MN. SPC WILL COORDINATE A DOWNSTREAM WATCH DECISION WITH
WFO FGF.

DISCUSSION...SMALL STORM CLUSTER CENTERED ON BENSON/TOWNER/RAMSEY
COUNTY LINES AS OF 0905Z IS CURRENTLY TRACKING EAST AT ABOUT 50-55
KT. THIS SPEED OF MOVEMENT ALONG WITH MRMS MESH SIGNATURES SUGGEST
THAT A PATH OF WIND-DRIVEN SEVERE HAIL IS LIKELY ACCOMPANYING THIS
CLUSTER. MAYVILLE VWP DATA SAMPLED A RATHER FAVORABLE WIND PROFILE
FOR MAINTAINING SUPERCELL STRUCTURE. EVENTUAL WEAKENING OF THIS
CLUSTER WILL LIKELY BE PREDICATED ON A LESS FAVORABLE DOWNSTREAM
THERMODYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT. WITH THE PLUME OF SURFACE DEW POINTS AT
OR ABOVE 65 DEG F GENERALLY CONFINED ALONG THE RED RIVER VALLEY AND
WEST...THE EXPECTATION IS FOR THE CLUSTER TO GRADUALLY WEAKEN AS IT
SHIFTS ACROSS NORTHWEST MN. GIVEN THE CONFINED NORTH/SOUTH EXTENT OF
THE THREAT...A DOWNSTREAM AREAL/TEMPORAL EXTENSION FOR ITS MOST
LIKELY TRACK MAY BE A PRUDENT COURSE OF ACTION.
