MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0752
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0653 PM CDT THU MAY 26 2016
AREAS AFFECTED...NW/N-CNTRL TX...TX HILL COUNTY...EDWARDS PLATEAU
CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 217...
VALID 262353Z - 270100Z
THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 217
CONTINUES.
SUMMARY...LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WIND GUSTS REMAIN POSSIBLE. A
WATCH MAY BE NEEDED OVER PORTIONS OF N-CNTRL TX DOWNSTREAM OF THE
ONGOING ACTIVITY AND TRENDS WILL BE MONITORED.
DISCUSSION...RECENT INTERACTION BETWEEN THE WRN MOVING OUTFLOW
BOUNDARY AND ONGOING WEAK CONVECTION ACROSS NW TX AND THE TX ROLLING
PLAINS HAS RESULTED IN STORM INTENSIFICATION...ALTHOUGH THE
PERSISTENCE OF THESE STRONGER UPDRAFTS IS IN QUESTION DUE TO COOLER
CONDITIONS BEHIND THE OUTFLOW. RECENT MESOANALYSIS SUGGESTS A NARROW
AREA AHEAD OF THE ONGOING STORMS NEAR ABI REMAINS FREE OF CINH BUT
NON-ZERO CINH EXISTS EAST OF A LINE FROM YOUNG COUNTY TO HAMILTON
COUNTY /ROUGHLY ALONG THE 80 DEG F ISOTHERM/. CURRENT EXPECTATION IS
FOR THE SVR THREAT TO PERSIST ACROSS EASTLAND AND STEPHENS COUNTY
BUT THE INCREASED CINH INTRODUCES UNCERTAINTY TO UPDRAFT STRENGTH
AFTER THAT. TRENDS WILL BE MONITORED FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF A SMALL
WATCH IN THIS AREA.
FARTHER S...RECENT RADAR IMAGERY SUGGESTS A TRANSITION TO A MORE
LINEAR MODE HAS OCCURRED WITH THE TSTM CLUSTER NEAR SJT BUT THE
THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WIND GUSTS PERSISTS.
