MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0290
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0354 PM CDT WED MAR 30 2016

AREAS AFFECTED...PORTIONS OF WRN N INTO N-CNTRL TX...WRN/CNTRL
OK...AND S-CNTRL KS

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 58...59...

VALID 302054Z - 302230Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH
58...59...CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...LARGE HAIL CONTINUES TO BE THE MAIN THREAT WITH ONGOING
STRONG/SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS WW 58 AND 59. AN EWD EXPANSION OF
BOTH WATCHES MAY BE NEEDED OVER THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO IN OK/TX.

DISCUSSION...TWO AREAS OF SCATTERED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE ONGOING
AS OF 2045Z...ONE OVER S-CNTRL KS/N-CNTRL OK...AND ANOTHER ACROSS
S-CNTRL OK INTO WRN N TX AND N-CNTRL TX. IN BETWEEN THESE CLUSTERS
OF THUNDERSTORMS...A GAP IN THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT IS EVIDENT
ACROSS MUCH OF CNTRL OK WHERE CONVECTION OCCURRED EARLIER THIS
MORNING. MANUAL OBSERVATION AND VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY ALSO SHOWS
SUPPRESSED CUMULUS...SUGGESTING THE SEVERE RISK ACROSS MUCH OF CNTRL
OK WILL REMAIN LIMITED IN THE SHORT TERM.

ACROSS N-CNTRL OK AND S-CNTRL KS...MULTIPLE LARGE HAIL REPORTS OF
1-2 INCHES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED WITH SPLITTING SUPERCELLS BEING
OBSERVED. FURTHER S ACROSS S-CNTRL OK INTO WRN N TX/N-CNTRL
TX...CONVECTION HAS REMAINED MORE ISOLATED. A SIMILAR
THERMODYNAMIC/KINEMATIC ENVIRONMENT FOR BOTH OF THESE REGIONS WILL
REMAIN FAVORABLE FOR A LARGE HAIL THREAT...WITH ISOLATED DAMAGING
WINDS ALSO POSSIBLE. THE TORNADO THREAT REMAINS RELATIVELY LOW
ACROSS BOTH SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCHES AS AREA VWPS SUGGEST
LOW-LEVEL WINDS REMAIN VEERED TO THE SW. AN EWD EXTENSION OF WW 58
AND 59 MAY BE NEEDED IN THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO FOR PARTS OF S-CNTRL OK
INTO N-CNTRL/NERN TX AS ADDITIONAL CONVECTION FORMS/MOVES INTO THESE
AREAS.
