FLOWERS...SELMA...BENSON...COATS CROSSROADS...GOLDSBORO 351 PM EDT SAT OCT 8 2016 ...LIFE THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS WORSENING ACROSS WAKE...JOHNSTON AND WAYNE COUNTIES INCLUDING THE CITY OF RALEIGH WITH 6 TO 8 INCHES OF RAIN PRODUCING WIDESPREAD FLASH FLOODING...FLOODING ALONG CRABTREE CREEK AND CRASHING TREES... STORM SPOTTERS ACROSS THE AREA HAVE REPORTED 5 TO 8 INCHES OF RAIN SINCE MIDNIGHT WITH MORE THAN 5 INCHES OF RAIN FALLING AT THE RALEIGH DURHAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. RAINFALL RATES HAVE BEEN EXCEEDING 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR AN ADDITIONAL OF 2 TO 5 INCHES OF RAIN TO FALL IN THESE AREAS THROUGH TONIGHT. RUN OFF OF THIS HEAVY RAIN WILL LEAD TO LIFE THREATENING FLASH FLOODING...POTENTIAL ROAD WASHOUTS AND POSSIBLE DAM FAILURES. THE CRABTREE CREEK IN RALEIGH IS NOW IN MAJOR FLOOD AT OLD WAKE FOREST ROAD AND MODERATE FLOOD AT GLENWOOD AVENUE AND ANDERSON DRIVE. MAJOR TO NEAR ALL TIME RECORD RIVER FLOODING IS NOW EXPECTED ALONG THE NEUSE RIVER AT CLAYTON...SMITHFIELD AND GOLDSBORO. THESE CONDITIONS POSE A RISK TO THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE POPULATION IN THESE AREAS. IF YOU ARE AT HOME...STAY AT HOME. IF YOU ARE ON THE ROAD...DO NOT DRIVE ACROSS FLOODED ROADS.
