EF0 tornado, Concord to Stanley, Missouri, May 4, 2021

From Concord to Stanley, this EF0 tornado ran 2.7 miles across Pemiscot County on May 4, 2021, touching down at 2:55 AM CDT and reaching 90 yards wide. It killed nobody, and did $50,000 of property damage.

The rating scale

    Severe damage. Whole stories of well-built houses destroyed, large buildings badly damaged, trains overturned, trees debarked, heavy cars lifted and thrown.

  5. EF4166 to 200 mph

    Devastating damage. Well-built houses leveled, structures with weak foundations moved some distance, cars thrown and large missiles generated.

  6. EF5over 200 mph

    Incredible damage. Strong frame houses swept off their foundations, car-sized missiles thrown more than 100 meters, steel-reinforced concrete badly damaged, high-rise buildings deformed.

What the Weather Service recorded

A moist and unstable airmass in place across the Mid-South helped to fuel severe storms ahead of an advancing cold front and deep upper-level trough swinging into the Central Plains. A line of severe storms moved from Arkansas across northern parts of the Mid-South during the early morning hours of May 4th. There was widespread wind damage and a few weak tornadoes.

The tornado developed near Interstate 55 where it damaged a shop building and a grain bin. Debris from the shop building was carried approximately one-quarter mile downstream. Along County Road 121, the tornado uprooted trees, one of which fell onto a church. The tornado damaged residences and a grain bin along County Road 321. The last observed damage was to trees east of C.R. 321. Peak winds were estimated at 85 mph.
