The snowstorm of November 13 to 15, 2010

Every winter weather episode the Weather Service filed east of the Rockies in these dates. A few may belong to another system on the same days. Deaths and injuries are direct and indirect together, as the offices filed them. Damage is property and crops in the dollars of the year, not adjusted for inflation, and only where an office estimated it.

• Winter Weather in Texas, November 12, 20102 eventsA strong autumn storm system ejected eastward over the southern Rockies and the Plains late on the 11th and 12th. Thunderstorms initially developed over parts of the Texas Panhandle and the northwestern South Plains of west Texas during the evening hours of the 11th.
• Heavy Snow in Iowa, November 12 to 13, 2010$525,000 · 6 eventsA strong low pressure developed over Oklahoma and southern Kansas during the day on the 12th. The low lifted north-northeast, passing through central Iowa during the evening of the 12th, reaching southeast Minnesota by the early afternoon of the 13th.
• Winter Storm in Minnesota, November 12 to 13, 201022 eventsA fast but strong storm system that developed across the Central Plains Friday night, November 12th, moved north-northeast across portions of southeast Minnesota, and into West Central Wisconsin by the afternoon of Saturday, November 13th.
• Heavy Snow in Wisconsin, November 13 to 14, 20102 deaths · 5 eventsA storm system brought widespread wet snow to much of northwest Wisconsin. Six to 10 inches of snow accumulated, with the heaviest amounts along the Upper St. Croix River Valley through Douglas County.
• Winter Storm in Iowa, November 13, 20107 eventsSnow accumulated 4 to 8 inches in part of northwest Iowa during the morning of November 13th, generally along and east of a Sibley to Cherokee to Ida Grove line. Wind gusts over 30 mph accompanying the snow caused drifting and a few areas of reduced visibility in blowing snow.
• Heavy Snow in Minnesota, November 13 to 14, 20106 eventsA storm system brought widespread wet snow to much of northeast Minnesota. A band of heavier snow amounts in the 6 to 11 inch range fell from Pine County to Duluth, the Iron Range, and north shore of Lake Superior.

• Winter Storm in Wyoming, November 14 to 15, 20101 eventA moist and unstable northwest flow aloft brought significant snow accumulations to the Big Horn Mountains.
• Winter Weather in Colorado, November 15, 201018 injured · 1 eventA combination of light snow, blowing snow, black ice and careless driving resulted in a 34-vehicle crash along Interstate 25 near Monument. Five tractor-trailers were involved in the pileup.
• Blizzard in Alaska, November 15, 20101 eventA strong ridge of high pressure across the Bering Sea combined with a trough of low pressure offshore of the eastern Beaufort Sea to produce a period of strong west wind along the eastern Beaufort Sea coast during the late morning and early afternoon hours of the 15th.
• Winter Storm in Montana, November 15 to 20, 20106 eventsSurface low pressure tracked across the Northern Rockies and brought cold air and snow to the Rocky Mountain Front as well as to Madison and Gallatin counties. Snow amounts in excess of 12 inches were reported.
• Winter Storm in Montana, November 15 to 16, 201011 eventsA vigorous upper level disturbance brought strong winds, heavy snow, and cold temperatures to most of southwest and northcentral Montana. Snow accumulations in excess of 6 inches were common.
• Blizzard and High Wind in Alaska, November 15 to 16, 2010$1,000 · 108 kt wind · 3 eventsA strong storm in the Gulf of Alaska coupled with high pressure and cold air in interior Alaska produced strong outflow gap wind through the Chugach Mountains. Recent snow in the Chugach Mountains was suspended in the intense north wind through the Thompson Pass.
• Winter Weather in Arkansas, November 16, 20102 eventsAs a low pressure system moved away from Arkansas early on the 16th, colder air filtered into the state. A little snow fell in parts of northern Arkansas. This was the first snow of the season.
