.SHORT TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/...

Current surface observations show breezy conditions across
most of southeast Wyoming with yesterday's cold front well to
the south and east...moving into central Nebraska and northwest
Kansas at this hour. Pretty nice day today, but winds are
expected to increase across the whole area through the late
morning and afternoon hours with gusts of 45 to 55 MPH expected
for southeast Wyoming, and 35 to 45 MPH for western Nebraska
into this evening. High temperatures will be cooler compared to
yesterday, but still slightly above average with highs in the
70s along and west of Interstate 25, and in the 80s east of I-25
into western Nebraska. A High Wind Watch remains in effect for
the wind prone areas of southeast Wyoming. Winds have been tame
so far this morning with only one or two gusts up to 53 MPH
briefly behind the cold front. Will leave the Watch as is and
continue to monitor trends and observations. In-house wind
guidance continues to show probabilities between 35% to 50%.
Again, winds are expected to increase late this morning with
daytime mixing, but not totally confident the wind prone areas
will see persistent gusts over 58 MPH this time of the year.
Similar conditions for Thursday as another cold front will move
southeast across the area. Remaining breezy with winds shifting
into the northwest Thursday morning. It will be a few degrees
cooler with temperatures closer to average/slightly below
average for this time of the year (low 70s to low 80s). Other
than a few showers across central Wyoming with FROPA, dry
conditions will continue through Thursday night.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...

A continuation of elevated fire weather conditions will likely spill
over into Friday. Overnight recoveries are poor at 35- 50 percent
along the foothills and basins. Afternoon humidities may plummet
into the single digits area wide. Winds look concerning over
the basins where gusts of 25-40 mph will exaggerate fire conditions
when combined with the very low humidities. Temperatures also
are a little toasty with a good portion of the Nebraska Panhandle
reaching the 90s.
Saturday features a return flow with southeastern winds. There may
be enough moisture with this return flow to alleviate critical fire
conditions, though they remain elevated. A few storms could develop
in the southern parts of the CWA and spreading into the mountain
basins Sunday and Sunday. There is not much of a signal for severe
weather in the long term. Between Sunday and Monday a cold front may
push its way through, though at this range there is considerable
spread in timing.

VFR conditions will prevail across all terminals for the duration of
this TAF period, with winds being the primary threat. Gusty winds
will plague most of the sites over the next 24 hours, with some
diurnal variation between 03Z to 15Z. Expect west to northwest gusts
between 25 to 50 knots for the southeast Wyoming terminals and 25 to
40 knots for the western Nebraska sites. Winds will subside late
this evening, but pick right back up by 15Z Thursday. The other
thing of note, there is a substantial wildfire southwest of KCDR,
some of the smoke may filter in, causing VIS to drop ever so
slightly.

Nearly half of the WYDOT sites along Interstate 80 west of Arlington reported wind gusts over 58 MPH during the early afternoon. Peak gust of 71 MPH was measured at Halleck Ridge.
WYDOT site at Bordeaux, along Interstate 25, reported a peak gust of 64 MPH.
WYDOT site at Coleman, along Interstate 25, reported a few hours of wind gusts between 58 to 65 MPH. Some brief breaks occurred in between the highest gusts.
