Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 137 PM PDT Thu Apr 2 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Periods of valley rain and mountain snow persisting through tonight * Strong winds for northern and central NV through early this evening * Fair weather conditions this weekend with a gradual warming trend && .DISCUSSION... (This evening through next Wednesday) WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Radar is depicting isolated to scattered showers due to an unstable airmass over northern and central Nevada. These showers are quickly moving through the area and are producing minor accumulations. The on and off activity will continue through the evening but will be dissipating as the sun sets. Winds will also be strong through the early evening, though areas affect by downsloping will continue to feel these strong winds through midnight or later. For tonight, look for an end to the active weather with skies clearing from west to east. Confidence in freezing fog development is low as winds will remain strong enough to inhibit formation. Overnight lows will be in the teens and 20s. On Friday, look for heights to rise during the day as upper ridging tries to build in. Afternoon high temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s. Some afternoon breezes are possible but for the most part, the day is expected to be pleasant. Quiet weather will be the rule during the overnight with lows in the teens and 20s. Upper level ridging will continue to build over northern and central Nevada. Look for a warmup to above normal levels. Highs on Saturday will be in the 60s to near 70 degrees with additional warming expected on Sunday to the 60s and 70s. Winds will be light both days and no precipitation is expected. Look for calm weather during the overnight with lows in the 20s and 30s. Ridging is forecast to continue Monday with a few degrees of additionally warming over Sunday. Highs will be in the 70s for the most part. Winds will be light with no precipitation expected at this time. Overnight lows will be in the 30s. Models are hinting at the next weather system trying to come ashore Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. At this time, only isolated showers are expected with slightly cooling temperatures back into the 60s and 70s, which remain above normal for this time of year. Lows will be in the 30s. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Confidence remains high with high pressure building in tomorrow through the weekend with warming temperatures.
