What happened

The episode as NWS ALY wrote it up.

A strong cold front crossed western Massachusetts during the morning hours on February 7, 2026, ushering in an arctic air mass which remained in place through the morning hours on February 9, 2026. Localized strong winds occurred with the frontal passage during the morning and afternoon hours on February 7 which included a 46 mph wind gust at the Pittsfield Municipal Airport.

The combination of gusty winds and air temperatures falling below zero (as low as 15 degrees below zero in spots) resulted in wind chill values (feels-like temperatures) to fall to between 15 and 30 degrees below zero for many areas during the afternoon or evening hours on February 7 into the morning hours on February 8.

Despite less wind, cold conditions persisted once again during the overnight hours on February 8 into the morning hours on February 9 with air temperatures falling below zero once again (as low as 10 degrees below zero) leading to wind chill values (feels-like temperatures) between 10 and 25 degrees below zero.
