The winds knocked down numerous trees and tree limbs throughout north Alabama and southern middle Tennessee, impacting several power lines and inducing power outages affecting tens of thousands. A few trees fell on vehicles. No injuries have been reported.

As TD Francine lifts northward through MS, the pressure gradient
has markedly tightened over north AL into southern middle TN. Wind
gusts of 40-50 mph have been observed, with multiple reports of
trees and power lines down resulting in power outages. As Francine
continues northward this evening, wind speeds will slowly
diminish. We will keep the Wind Advisory in effect for now, but it
is possible it may cancelled early later tonight.
A solid rain band is developing over west central into southwest
AL. This appears to be the one that the CAMS indicate will lift
northeast into the I-65 corridor region this evening and
overnight. Soundings indicate the surface inversion may hold
fairly strong tonight, so the tornado threat remains low. However,
this risk may increase later tonight, especially in our southern
counties. The flood risk tonight will increase within the rain
band as it begins to slow down.

As Francine pivots northwest into AR, a deep low southerly flow
will bring deeper moisture northward into the TN valley. As
heating commences within the dry slot aloft, convective
instability will become much greater on Friday than today with
CAPE values of 1000-1500 J/kg and bulk shear values of 30-35kt.
SRH values will be declining somewhat, but still not insignificant
(150-200 m2/s2). These values may wax and wane over the next 1-2
days. Thus, expect mini-supercells along with potential
banding/training to continue Friday into Friday night. A secondary
band looks to arrive in northwest AL Friday midday into the
afternoon along another vorticity spoke rotating around Francine.
These bands could last into Saturday night and Sunday as well.
Rain totals will range from 3-6 inches thru this time frame for
most areas, but higher amounts continue to be indicated in
ensemble probability data. Will maintain the Flood Watch through
7 am Saturday, but may need to extend this another 12-24 hours in
future shifts if trends continue in the forecast data.

The remnants of Francine will meander across the Deep South on
Monday as an open wave, with low-medium (30-40%) rain chances in
the forecast once again. However, by Tuesday/Wednesday a ridge to
the west over Texas will finally begin to build into the region,
helping us to finally dry out. After several days of cloud cover
and highs in the mid/upper 70s to lower 80s, a gradual warming
trend will push us into the mid to upper 80s by midweek.

Gusty east to southeast flow will continue through most of the
period, with a diminishing trend tonight. Until then, gusts of
30-35kt are expected at times. Bands of SHRA will also persist
through the period, with a low chance of TSRA. +RA is expected in
some areas as well, reducing visibility to 1-4SM (IFR and MVFR
conditions expected). Ceilings will also tend to lower into the
010-020agl range (MVFR) by 22Z, and possibly below 010agl (IFR) by
13/14Z.
