Francine was downgraded to a Tropical Storm with the latest
Advisory but the anticipated hazards for our CWA have not changed.
As the center of Francine approaches our southern zones the
hazards will begin to take affect. Lamar and Forest counties have
been included in a Tornado Watch until 6AM as tornado develop
becomes possible. In addition to the tornado threat, tropical
storm force winds along with very heavy rainfall will spread over
our southern zones as well and continue north through Thursday.
With the forecast track nearly along Interstate 55 through
Thursday, the greatest impacts from Francine will remain
essentially over the eastern half of our CWA. /22/

Tonight and tomorrow...
Impacts from Francine will be felt in the near term with gusty
winds, flooding rain, and tornadoes all possible. Francine is
encountering shear and dry air and expected to rapidly weaken as it
moves inland. Ongoing showery activity in the south will continue to
push northward and increase in intensity overnight. Flash flooding
remains possible, with the elevated restricted to east of the
Natchez Trace in the presence of stronger shear. Francine's center
is expected to track along and east of the I-55 corridor and winds
will begin to steadily increase out of the east southeast. Strongest
winds will be east of center, gusts to 40 to 50mph, with locally
higher gusts possible in extreme southern portions closer to the
Louisiana state line. Such winds could lead to tree damage and
potential power outages. Will maintain a limited/elevated in the HWO
for wind with adjustments of greatest potential eastward towards the
Pine Belt. A wind advisory has been introduced for areas not meeting
tropical wind criteria. A tropical storm warning has been introduced
in south central and south eastern Mississippi to account for the
tropical storm force winds. A flash flood watch will be maintained
for areas in central and southern MS. The increased shear will
support a threat for tornadoes, with greatest risk in the extreme
southeast. A marginal risk has been highlights for the extreme east.
Risk from all hazards will diminish later tomorrow afternoon as

Friday through next Tuesday:
Francine, or the remnants thereof, will reside over the Mid-South
region as we begin the long term portion of the forecast on Friday.
Some lingering light rain will remain possible across mainly
northeast Mississippi through late Friday afternoon. Then both rain
and clouds will steadily exit north and out of the CWA through
Friday evening.
The majority of the forecast area will remain dry over the weekend
into early next week. However, a general troughing pattern will
reside across the Deep South in Francine's wake. This, coupled with
daytime heating in the continued moist airmass over the region,
could yield an isolated shower each afternoon Saturday through next
Tuesday. There is some low probability of lingering 30-40kt flow,
increased Theta E axis & favorable lapse rates for some low end
severe threat into the weekend. However, this is very low
probability and guidance is slow to catch up on any rain chances in
the Saturday to Sunday timeframe.
As far as temperatures are concerned, muggy conditions will again
persist across the CWA. Highs on Friday will range from the upper
70s north to middle 80s south. Highs each afternoon through Tuesday
will generally reside in the middle to upper 80s. Lows each night

Flying conditions are expected to deteriorate from the south
tonight as Hurricane Francine moves into the area and then
continues moving north through the area Thursday. IFR cigs along
with -RA and gusty winds to 25kts were already being observed at
the southern TAF sites. In addition wind shear to 55kts wl develop
over the south. The gusts, RA and wind shear will move north to
the I-20 corridor after 06Z and to the HWY 82 corridor by 12Z.
This will result in widespread IFR conditions across the area that
will prevail through the end of the TAF period cntrl and north.
Drier air Thu aftn wl end the -RA across the southern TAF sites
and allow for MVFR conditions. /22/
