A corridor of up to 50 mph wind gusts developed across north Mississippi. Days of prior rainfall in addition to gusty winds was able to produce tree damage across north Mississippi.

Widespread rainfall and gusty winds will spread into the Midsouth
today, in advance of Tropical Depression Francine. Winds may gust
as high as 40 to 50 mph this afternoon into early evening.
Rainfall totals through tonight will range from 3 to 5 inches
over portions of north Mississippi, southwest Tennessee and east
central Arkansas. Locally higher amounts will be possible. Urban
areas will be at particular risk of flash flooding today. Locally
heavy rainfall may continue on Friday over portions of northwest
Tennessee, while the remainder of the Midsouth experiences
intermittent showers.

Tropical Storm Francine will weaken to a Post-Tropical Depression
as it moves into central Mississippi today. The surface low will
track up I-55 into the Midsouth this evening. A corridor of
potential 50 mph gusts will develop over northeast MS this
afternoon, northeast of the surface low. A secondary corridor of
potential 45 mph gusts will develop along and west of the MS River
late afternoon and early evening, on the north and northwest
flank of the surface low. At this time, it appears wind gusts will
prevail below High Wind Warning criteria over the Midsouth
through this evening, but trends will be monitored closely through
the day for tactical upgrades from the Wind Advisory.
The Flood Watch has been expanded to include most of the Midsouth
into the evening hours. Heaviest rainfall will likely fall to the
north and east of the surface low track, with 4 to 5 inch amounts
possible over north central MS, southwest TN and east central AR.
The Flood Watch may need a westward expansion into the delta,
southwest of Memphis. 06Z HRRR indicates persistent wrap-around
rainfall in this region today, with up to 4 inches of QPF through
this evening. 00Z HREF QPF has under-performed on rainfall over
this area in the pre-dawn hours.
A Marginal tornado threat remains for far northeast MS and the
Savannah TN area. Limiting factor will remain lack of surface
based instability. But any brief breaks in the clouds may warm
surface temps a few degrees, creating modest but adequate CAPE for
some brief spin-up tornadoes in the discrete banded convection.
There is additional potential for heavy rainfall along the TN
River on Friday, where there will be potential for training along
the eastern periphery of a nearly-stationary remnant low.

lower vsbys. As the low inches northward, gusty easterly winds,
