.NEAR TERM...
(Rest of tonight)
Issued at 937 PM CDT Thu Oct 31 2024

Bands of light to moderate showers continue to move east through
the area ahead of a cold front. These showers have generally
weakened as they move east and have resulted in rainfall amounts
around a half an inch or less. The front is expected to slow and
potentially stall over the area through the overnight hours,
keeping medium to high (50-80%) changes for rain in the forecast
into the morning. Winds will continue to weaken tonight but should
remain southerly until the morning. Overnight lows will be in the
low to mid 60s. Made minor changes to PoPs and winds this evening
to better match current trends, but otherwise no major changes
were needed.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Friday through Saturday night)
Issued at 140 PM CDT Thu Oct 31 2024

The cold front will begin to settle into the area Fri morning,
with the potential for some additional showers/few tstms. Rainfall
amounts though are expected to be around 0.10 inches or less given
the weakening nature of the front. Rainfall will then taper off
Fri afternoon, as the front stalls invof the area. Afternoon temps
Fri will be slightly cooler compared to the last couple of days
given the influx of slightly cooler air, with highs mainly in the
lower/mid 70s. A weak upper ridge pattern will then begin to build
westward across much of the Gulf region into the first half of the
weekend period. The front may remain fairly stagnant into Sat as
well, before lifting northward as a warm front going past Sat
night. Lingering moisture below H7 may allow for some cloud cover
thru Sat night, although little in the way of convergence along
the front may offset the prob for any additional light rain. Even
with some lingering clouds, highs on Sat look to climb more into
the upper 70s/near 80F, with lows into early Sun trending in the
upper 50s/lower 60s.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday through Wednesday)
Issued at 427 AM CDT Thu Oct 31 2024

There will be little-no change in the overall synoptic pattern
across our region from Sunday-Monday night, as light-moderate SE
flow in the low-levels will persist between a ridge to our east
and another area of low pressure ejecting northeastward from the
central High Plains into the Canadian Prairie provinces. This will
ensure partly-mostly cloudy skies with a few sprinkles of rain
possible at times, and highs in the u70s-l80s (lows in the l-m
60s). Later in the extended period, there are indications that a
cold front (similar in magnitude and orientation to the front
later today) will slowly approach the region from the northwest,
perhaps resulting in an increase in showers/thunderstorms across
the northwestern half of the forecast area from Tuesday-Wednesday.
Vertical wind shear will be a bit stronger next week than it
currently is, and with surface dewpoints predicted to be in the
m60s, we will need to watch this system for potential development
of strong-severe thunderstorms. Temps may fall slightly (u50s-l60s
for lows and m-u 70s for highs) by Tuesday night/Wednesday if the
front indeed makes it as far southeastward as our region.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1249 AM CDT Fri Nov 1 2024

A band of showers extended from eastern KY, across N/AL to
southern LA. Rain has shifted east of KMSL, but continued at
KHSV. A cold front located west of these showers should move in a
NW-SE manner across the area after daybreak Fri, with winds become
NW-N around 5 kt. More showers are possible in the day as a front
slowly moves over the region. Most of the models were hinting at
continued CIGS in the MVFR, with some reduced to IFR. Periods of
light rain/drizzle could reduce VSBY values into the 5-6SM at a
times. Drier air filtering in should result in P6SM VSBY with a
mix of CIGS ranging from MVFR to VFR in the early evening. Fog
formation could become an issue late in the TAF and in the
overnight hours Fri; more on this in later issuances.
