.SYNOPSIS...Dry weather will continue through the weekend though
there will be a fair amount of clouds around Saturday, in
association with an upper low over CA. Another system will bring
snow showers amd more cold air to the region beginning Monday
evening.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Sunday

Upper level ridge located over the southern Rockies will keep
quiet weather around this weekend for most. However, an upper
trough offshore will be dropping southward over California
Saturday morning through Sunday. With the upper ridge in place,
this trough will not make any progress inland until Sunday night
when it moves onshore as a closed cut off low over Baja
California. Given the current forecast track of the low most
precipitation will remain west of the Sierras. The only notable
exception will be for far western Humboldt County Saturday morning
as there may be enough spill over moisture for light snow showers
across the mountains of the Sheldon wildlife refuge. Sunday a
shortwave ridge will push southward heading for S CA in the wake
of the upper low. By Sunday afternoon another trough will be on
approach to the Pacific NW poised to take and inland route
southward, entering the Silver State for Monday. Temperatures will
range from the upper 20s to middle 40s for highs with lows
dropping into the upper single digits to the lower 20s. Winds will
be variable across most of the area for the weekend running at 5
to 10 MPH with a gust up to 15 MPH. the only exception will be
across Humboldt County Saturday under the influence of the
California system, here winds will be stronger out of the NE at 10
to 15 MPH with gusts up to 25 MPH possible.

.LONG TERM...Sunday night through next Saturday.

High pressure ridge over the region Sunday night into Monday
morning will bring fair weather to the area. The story changes
considerably Monday afternoon into Monday night as a trough of low
pressure and associated strong cold front approach the state. The
cold front will move through Monday night into Tuesday morning. Snow
is also expected across much of central and northern Nevada with
several inches expected in the mountain areas and generally less
than inch in most valleys with isolated higher totals by Tuesday
evening. Impacts could be amplified with strong northwest winds
with gusts of 45 mph possible promoting blowing and drifting
snow. Temperatures will be significantly colder Tuesday and
Wednesday with high temperatures in some cases 20 degrees colder
than Monday. Highs Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be in the
20s and 30s with lower 20s possible in northeast Elko county.
Widespread snow will end late Tuesday with lingering light snow
wrap-around but less impactful snow showers expected late Tuesday
night into early Wednesday morning. The timing of this expected
low pressure system has advanced in the past few model runs so
confidence in timing is still low.

Temperatures will remain quite cold through Thursday with some
warming expected as the weekend approaches. Model guidance
continues to show the coldest morning next week being Thursday
with widespread single digits and below zero readings across
eastern and northeastern Nevada. Quieter conditions are expected
late next week with dry conditions.

&&

.AVIATION...Consistent southerly winds are expected at KELY and
to a lesser extent KTPH. Mainly northeast winds are expected along
the I-80 corridor through this evening. Mid and upper-level cloud
cover will increase across the state tonight as a weather disturbance
impacts California. Dry conditions are expected at all terminals
through Saturday.
