Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Glasgow MT 310 AM MST Mon Dec 4 2023 .DISCUSSION... A cold front will move SE across the forecast area early this morning. There has been some snow showers ahead of it overnight that has left enough snow to cover the ground is some areas. Additional snow showers are possible around sunrise in the NE corner of the state. Gusty west to NW winds will be the main weather impact today with gusts 35 to 50 mph likely. The probability of reaching high wind warning criteria (58+ mph gust) is less than 20 percent today except in a few high elevation areas like the Little Rockies and Big Sheep Mountains. Will maintain High Wind Warning in the Little Rockies through 8 am for now. Wind gust are expected to diminish somewhat there after 8 am this morning. Winds will diminish over the entire area in the late afternoon and this evening as surface high moves through the area tonight. A warm front moves through the area tonight and models are hinting at some light mixed precipiation in some areas. Upper ridge builds into the area for Tuesday and Wednesday with record warm temperatures possible in some areas. The NBM 90th percentile hints at a 70 degree reading not being out of the question near Winnett on Tuesday. A persistent chinook from the Little Rockies toward Fort Peck Lake keeps forecast lows all the way up in the 45-50 range for Tuesday night there. A shortwave trough moves through the area Wednesday night and Thursday and flattens the ridge. A cold front with this system will bring a chance of rain with gusty NW winds. Temperatures will cool to near 50 in most areas on Thursday and to near 40 in most areas on Friday as an upper trough settles into the region. NW flow aloft is expected over the weekend with somewhat above normal highs in the 30s to lower 40s. && .AVIATION... LAST UPDATED: 1000Z FLIGHT CATEGORY: A mix of VFR and MVFR today with temporary IFR conditions possible in either snow showers or fog through 13Z. VFR tonight. DISCUSSION: A cold front early this morning will bring some snow showers and patchy fog with IFR conditions at KOLF, KSDY, and KGDV. Gusty NW winds are expected behind the cold front with some low clouds that could bring MVFR cigs at KOLF and KSDY during the day tonight. Winds diminish between 21Z and 03Z as high pressure moves into the area. Mid level clouds move in tonight ahead of a warm front Tuesday morning.
