Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ 350 AM MST Sun Jul 31 2022 .SYNOPSIS...An active monsoon pattern will continue today, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Beginning next week, a slight downward trend in thunderstorm coverage is expected. Flash flooding will remain the main threat from any storms that do develop. && .DISCUSSION...Significant debris cloud cover, a rain-cooled boundary layer and a stabilizing airmass will be the features to look at today. The mid-level high has started the process of re- centering, so the stable layers aloft will increase heading into early next week, making for a noticeable downturn. This will last through Wednesday or Thursday, before the ridge shifts back east late next week and activity increases, once again. We will allow the FFA to expire at 5 AM MST and this has been coordinated. There will undoubtedly be some stronger storms and the 12Z sounding will likely feature above normal PW again today, but as stated above, we expect activity to begin to unwind, starting today. && .AVIATION...For the 12Z TAF package...Mainly VFR conditions are expected with light winds. Scattered showers and thunderstorms after 17Z, tapering off after 06Z Monday. Gusty, erratic winds and MVFR or lower conditions possible in and near thunderstorms. Aviation discussion not updated for TAF amendments. && .FIRE WEATHER...Scattered to numerous storms today, with less activity Monday. Heavy rain and localized flash flooding continue to be the main threats. Light winds, seasonally cool temperatures, and humid both days. Gusty, erratic winds in and near storms. Tuesday through Thursday...Expect a warming trend with a downturn in shower and thunderstorm activity during this period.
