Tropical Storm Barry drifted west northwest across the Northern Gulf of Mexico during July 11-13th, briefing reaching hurricane status with 75 mph sustained winds as it made landfall near Intracoastal City/Vermillion Bay in Southcentral Louisiana during the morning hours of the 13th. Barry quickly weakened to a tropical storm shortly after making landfall, and weakened rapidly as it drifted north into Central Louisiana during the late evening through the early morning hours on July 14th. Even though sustained tropical storm force winds were not observed across Northern or Central Louisiana with this storm, wind gusts to 35-40 mph were recorded across portions of Northcentral Louisiana, which did result in sporadic tree damage across this area near and after daybreak on the 14th, well east of the center of circulation which tracked north across far Western Louisiana.
